northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg reports from fredericksburg on the obstacles that lie ahead and the trauma that remains with survivors. >> since this happened to me i realized the emotional effects. how psychologically unstable you can become after a sexual assault. >> she is a student at the university of mary washington in fredericksburg. she does not want to reveal her name so we will call her karen. a month and a half ago karen says she was sexually assaulted at an off campus bar by a man she did not know. she reported it to police but no arrests have been made. >> you realize you lose your sense of safety. you realize a lot of times people don't believe your story. they think you provoked the sexual assault. >> it is a problem victims' advocates at colleges and universities have been battling for decades. >> alleged gang rape. >> only in the past few years has it gained national attention and mass media coverage. chris martin is a psychology professor at mary washington who has been studying campus sexual assaults for the past 25 years. he says the trend of awareness be

virginia. closer to the metro area around 5 inches fell in our southern and western suburbs to six inches in southern maryland toward fredericksburg. fluffy dry snow. it's going to be easy to remove. get the broom out and take care of it as soon as you can. as the day goes on it may be compacting more and more. temperatures in the teens will keep it frozen and keep it snow covered for the morning commute in the mid teens. the afternoon commute the sun comes out. that will heat the pavement up. we may get the meltings. the problem is it freezes up again. even though air temperatures will stay below freezing. the pavement temperatures may get a little below freezing and freeze up with patchy ice overnight down to the teens tomorrow morning. and snow showers likely tomorrow afternoon. that's our next chance of snow. strong cold front comes in trigger snow showers that may give us an additional amount of snow. similar to the snow showers on saturday. we may be getting that tomorrow afternoon. much colder and breezy on thursday and partly sunny. temperatures fall from upper teens in the morning down to near 10 by evening. single digits

fredericksburg. taking it which shift over here, this is route three, a main road , we have seen them all morning long and in this section of town of virginia they have 900 pieces of equipment out there on the roads trying to plow and get the work done. 3800 pieces of equipment in the far northern virginia areas of loudoun and fairfax. for the drivers, for the truck drivers, it has been a tough morning out there. >> it's pretty bad. the roads are messy. the traffic finally started to die down, maybe we can start to get our job done. >> it is challenging and difficult, it is raining and wet with precipitation. >> very slippery indeed and as promised, that last woman we just heard from had traveled from atlanta and was on her way to maryland. she said that it took upwards of 16 to 17 hours and she could not go above 35 to 45 miles per hour. one piece of good news today it does seem that from what we are seeing a lot of people are heeding the warning from government agencies saying to stay off the road and if you do have to go off, certainly drive with caution, that is definitely something we are seeing in the fredericksburg area, good news no
