we're well above freezing everywhere now. 41 at reagan national and fredricksburg. later tonight, colder winds will turn out of the north. won't be windy but a flow of more northerly winds and drop well below freezing in the low to mid 20's overnight. everything will be set. when the precipitation arrives, it will not be rain. it will be snow. the air overhead cold enough to produce all snow and this system has been scooting alodge at a pretty good clip. won't be long before it's in southwestern virginia and we think after midnight to 4:00 a.m., it will be overspreading most of the area from the south and from the southwest. in advance, we have that large area of winter weather advisories that stretch north of the storm track and then this entire area under active winter storm warnings from portions of louisiana, arkansas all the way to the atlantic ocean. as far as the details in the futurecast, look at this color scheme from the darker blues. that's the heaviest snow and at 4:00 a.m. that's to be south and east of us. we'll be on the edge of the snow at 4:00 a.m.
