delia goncalves is live at the courthouse in fredricksburg.what more do we know about the suspect steven briel? >> reporter: we know steven briel was 30 years old, not your typical college age student. however, we know he was a student at mary washington for many years on and off. while he lives with the victim, denot have a personal relationship with her. so when he comes to court agent later this morning in about two and a half hours, hopefully we'll learn more about exact play what happened on friday. that was when this young lady was murdered. all we know right now is that steven briel, police say, strange gamed his roommate to death in their fredricksburg home. 20-year-old grace mann of falls church was a junior at university of mary washington. a female roommate found her, tried to perform cpr and called 911. the suspect took off when police arrived to the house leading to a lockdown on campus. but of course he was eventually caught, arrested, charged with murder and abduction. the victim many say was an inspiration to so many on campus

now a memorial service under way for the university of mary washington student strangled in her fredricksburg home. it started at noon on that u.m.w. campus. 20-year-old grace mann died last week. police charged one of mann's roommates, steven briel with murdering her. a peace demonstration at the lincoln memorial marking 100 years of the massacre of millions by ottoman turks. up to 1.5 armenians were killed in the conflict. today, more than 150 dancers and color guard are raising awareness and fostering greater cooperation between turkey and armenia. they unveiled a banner reading #next100years. a flag rally planned at a georgia university has forced the school to cancel classes today and it comes after students walked on an american flag to protest racism last week at the university. safety concerns grew there after police say they found a gun in a protester's backpack. today's rally to support the american flag is expected to you draw large crowds. the school cancelled classes ahead of the protest citing safety concerns. coming up on abc 7 news at noon it's being called a potential breast

and another from fredricksburg. they're also among the very latest arrests there. all four suspects face felony counts of indecent liberties and using a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving children. leon: the final suspect has pleaded guilty in the 2007 killing of redskins safety shawn taylor during a botched burglary. timmy brown will serve 18 years in prison under today's plea agreema agreement agreement. he was one of five men who drove to his home in florida with intent to committing burglary. taylor confronted the men with a machete and he was shot and killed. taylor's father says that brown's conviction brings the family some closure. alison: a woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a metro transit police vehicle overnight. metro says that woman was trying to cross branch avenue near the naylor road metro station in temple hills. investigators say she was not in a crosswalk intersection or at a traffic signal when she was hit. people we talked to say that area is not

it's plenty warm in fredricksburg. 78 degrees there. we're up to 63. that's been the battle all day long. the cold air mass cool wet air mass in place all day and very slowly moving out. thought it would move out sooner, we'd warm up sooner. never happen. but the warm air is there. areas with the warmer temperatures have the greatest risk of having the severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and this evening. 83 in norfolk and raleigh and temperatures in richmond at 82 at last check. this is where the action will be tonight weatherwise, not so much locally. couple of radar images for you. first satellite and radar together, not a lot of action at all ahead of this cold front and part of this reason is the lack of warm air in the mid atlantic area. it's cool controlled by the ocean air. we have this brief little warm sector developing as we speak. on storm scan you see a couple of areas of showers. this is the cold front south and west of richmond couple of heavy elements developing here but everything is moving to the northeast so the threat of any th

briel strangled 20-year-old grace mann inside a home they shared in fred i canericksricksburg fredricksburg. a funeral was held today in falls church. she was remembered as a lover of music. her father, thomas mann is a judge in fairfax county. some very clear video is coming into our newsroom tonight of some thieves in action. d.c. police release this video they say shows a man snatching a package from a home's porch. it happened around 2:30 this afternoon. rather, in the afternoon of april 9th on warren street in northeast washington near constitution avenue. we're also getting a clear look at the suspect in a d.c. school burglary. this video was shot april 5th inside jefferson middle school on seventh street southeast. in it you see a young man leaving the building with computer equipment. and the final video comes from a building on west virginia avenue in northeast near gallaudet university. in this case you see a person place a tall ladder against the back of a building and then climb up the ladder and into the building. police have not said what was stolen. rewards are being offered

now, we did have a reporter in the courtroom there in fredricksburg as 30-year-old steven vander briel who lives in the same home as mann appeared in court earlier this morning. we understand he is facing charges in connection with her death. this morning, he was appointed a public defender and we understand according to this t proceedings was held without bond. he is expected to be back in court next month. reporting live brianne carter, abc 7 news. jummy: new developments this noon in the search for the man wanted in the murder of his wife in an anne arundel county dunkin' donuts. police are still looking for patel. according to the capital gazette, patel may have fled the country. he's charged in the death of his wife in the shop where they learned. they found her body on april 12th and they say she was apparently hit multiple times with an object. court paperwork suggests that patel took a cab to newark international airport in new jersey where he may have boarded a plane. the investigation also continues into what caused a fatal spinal injury in freddie gray up in baltimore. this
