mark, what is freedomfest? how did it come about? >> it is a renaissance gathering talk politics, philosophy, econom ics, science, technology, re ligion, healthy living. we get to a wide group, an investment conference conference, investors comment concerned citizens with a focus on political, economic and financial freedom. it is growing. we're bigger every year. 2,000 people are here. we're growing next year we will move to caesars palace with a larger facility and this team is are we roehm? it will be a controversial topic. >> host: is is sponsored by the libertarian party? are you libertarian? >> guest: i a hate labels i say treat everyone as an individual with a different point* of view. we don't like political labels. i guess libertarian is the closest thing to identify me. freedomfest is not connected to any political party. for-profit corporation vivianne by all nonprofit think tanks, freedom organizations, qaeda oh, reason and common heritage come of remarks come americans for prosperity. we don't compete with them. a single

. >> host: and to be reviewed at freedomfest do you find a lot of opposition to that idea? >> no. that is what this event is about. people understand. with the whole idea you best serve the needs by free enterprise. they meet the needs of others. that is what it is about. they understand entrepreneurial business to create jobs through innovation. did government and then the automobile? no. [laughter] >> what is it like to write a book with steve forbes? >> a great learning experience like higher education. >> one of the themes we're talking about is the a moralism of capitalism. is that a component? >> that is the next book coming out the end of august. capitalism is moral because it is about meeting the real world needs of other people. the free-market transaction is a reciprocal exchange each% provides benefit to the other. george talks about it as each side is to the other. capitalism those who believe been big government see the free-market transaction that there is exploitation. each side gets benefits. that may not be ideal but otherwise it would not occur. that is what make

. >> you're watching booktv on location at the annual freedomfest conference. one of the speakers is senator rand paul and author of the book the tea party goes to washington. the book came out when you were first elected. how would you assess the tea party today? >> and they were at equal parts to both parties. republicans voting for the bank -- bank bailout and also obamacare. now we have the supreme court ruling if anything the tea party may be rejuvenated by the opposition and. when they did not strike it down you may see a resurgence try to have an influence. >> host: when the tea party first started 2006 rethinking of running for office? >> december 162007 and boston and calling it the re-enactment of the boston tea party also when my dad's campaign would hit national waves. then it gruber reversed tea party and kentucky was 20009 senator bunning was talking about not running dry showed up at the tea party miss it i will take off 20 minutes there be 20 people like me better mad there were nearly 1,000 people and a new something big was going on. >> host:

we are on location in las vegas at freedomfest. we are joined now by author thomas woods, who is the author of the book, "rollback: repaling big government before the coming fiscal collapse." mr. woods, what is your premise and the main point you're trying to cross? >> only about 5% of the book deals with fiscal issues of the budget. i would rather jump out a window than read or write a book on us. but to set the stage, i am explaining that we are on a trajectory, left or right or democrat or republican, we all have to admit it can't be sustained. obviously, some very wrenching changes are coming. the rest of the book is geared towards revisiting some of the arguments by which we were sold the government. if it weren't for this program, we would have that -- and etc. when we do have to cut back is not going to be the terrible catastrophe and nightmare scenario to the country -- the silver lining is that you cut back on so many things and we will give a lot more scope for entrepreneurship and freedom. >> what is one of the budget it
