juliette goodrich reports from fremont. >>> reporter: this is a lead agency, the fremont police department, and quite a rude awakening for a lot of neighbors in this area and surrounding cities. they woke up to abrupt ramming down of doors, guns drawn, s.w.a.t. team. there were several arrests and one suspect still at large. >> at 6:00 in the morning ail heard was bam, bam. >> reporter: early this morning she woke up to s.w.a.t. officers ramming down her aunt's door in her newark neighborhood. police arresting her cousin just doors down from her house. the suspect's sister talked to cbs 5. >> they said that my little brother had a weapon or something on him? they wasn't sure. they couldn't tell us everything that happened. they was just looking for a weapon but they didn't find one. >> had a large gun so we was like -- all right. >> reporter: a rash of recent robberies in fremont prompted the manhunt. police from all over the bay area serving search warrants in fremont, newark, milpitas and san leandro. this one in newark at thompson and california streets. >> as you can imagine these thin

fremont police arrested james reese norton. detectives say the retired teacher sexually assault add high school student between 2006 and 2009. she says it took place in fremont and livermore in homes where norton lived at the time. officers are trying to determine if there are other victims. >> this morning san leandro police are looking into a string of robberies that appear related. five people have been robbed in the past three weeks. location of the robberies you see on the screen. in each instance they were walking alone when a group of two to four african-american men they say -- a long time summer tradition is coming under scrutiny. music in the park has drawn people downtown for 23 years but in the past couple years police say he have seen a spike in the number of vandalism after the concert. san jose downtown association says it's unfair to link the relatively peaceful music in the park with crimes that happen once the event ends. >> people being associated with music in the park again, hours after the event and up to

basically, the objective is to maintain traffic on first, fremont, and beale street, with a minimum of three lanes and the pedestrian lanes. in addition, in the east/west direction, there will be a 30- foot trestle bridge to allow them to have equipment operating to assist with the excavation process. this shows you the layout of the trestle bridge running the length of the project, and also, you can see the cross lot bridge. they basically need to bring all the soil up through those cross braces using a crane up on the trestle bridge to do the excavation. they can go about 15 feet at a time, and then they start putting the bracing in. this is the actual excavation running from early next year, second quarter of next year through the end of 2014. they will start at the west end and work towards the east. that is primarily because in the east, we are still doing debauches pile doing the buttress piles. as i said, there are five levels of live skit that need to be incorporated at each one of those various levels. right now, the plan is to conduct the excavation in two shifts. with the br
