the money from the feds will help fund a two-station extension from fremont to north san jose. lisa washington is at city hall in san jose where there was a bit of a celebration just a short time ago. lisa? >> reporter: that's right, frank. that meeting wrapped up not that long ago. and the ground breaking for the process begins one month from today on april 12. that federal grant comes with the federal transit administration that $900 million is the largest funding project in bpa's history. >> it is a day of celebration in san jose. with the help of the federal government, bart and the south bay is one step closer to being a reality. >> we're happy, it is going to be a lot of people working to build it and a lot of people riding it when it is done. >> reporter: a $900 million grant will help fund the first phase of the extension, 10 miles of tracks and two new stations and the bart passengers say the station will be a convenience and a time saver. >> it will be a lot easier on the commute. i live all the way in san jose so it is another half hour commute all the way over here. and so it will be helpful.
