fruman and parnas have represented themselves as having been working forge in giuliani's capacity as president trump's personal lawyer, which would mean by the transit of property, they were working for president trump. it's never been totally clear what exactly the relationship of that -- what exactly the contours of that relationship were and how money factored into it. presumably that will become clear at some point. but there has been this parallel case of these two unusual guys -- it's been sort of chugging along in the news alongside and abutting the impeachment proceedings on capitol hill against the president for this scheme in which they were apparently involved with mr. giuliani. well, now today most unexpectedly, that has just blown open. the impeachment inquiry in the house first sent a request for information, documents, testimony to mr. parnas and mr. fruman at the very end of september, the very beginning of october, right at the start of the formal impeachment inquiry in the house. it was october 3rd when impeachment investigators got a no from lev and igor, no they'r

the person who made the tape and who's not commented about it was actually igor fruman.ccording to joe bondi, who is lev parnas' lawyer, there was a general discussion among a very small group of people that the tape is an hour and a half long, and the subject of the ukraine in general came up. now, lev parnas has said that he had problems with the ambassador, she was an obama appointee. i think it's worth remembering that in the indictment that lev parnas is under from the southern district of new york, they do talk about lev parnas' business ties and, you know, there's a notion that maybe the ambassador was an obstacle to parnas and fruman's business ambitions in the ukraine. and i think it's important to remember that in the context of this dinner. >> so now legally, michael, we have a couple of different boxes here. one is the president said i don't know parnas, i don't know what he was up to, i would have never talked to him about anything like this. first, what does this tape mean on that score? >> that he is not telling the truth. it's pretty straightforward that

also in january giuliani parnas and fruman met with let's thank in new york. they discuss investigations to burisma and the bidens and whether ambassador yovanovitch was quote loyal to president trump. lutsenko held a grudge against ambassador yovanovitch because she had the broader state department were critical of lutsenko's failures. they were critical of his failure to prosecute corruption in ukraine. this was the motivation for lutsenko to give giuliani and his associates false information on biden and burisma and here's the point. lutsenko and shokin had grudges against biden and ambassador yovanovitch. why? because they were implementing u.s. policy to fight corruption in ukraine. giuliani and his associates had motives to harm biden, to help get president trump reelected. they had motives to remove ambassador yovanovitch or anyone else who got in their way and their efforts to smear biden. giuliani admitted this. he told "the news york times" that he spoke to president trump about how invested are yovanovitch frustrated efforts that would be politicall

nbc news has not confirmed that the voices on the tape are of trump, parnas and fruman.in early parts of the video. neither he nor the white house have disputed that the recording is authentic. >> joining us once again onset, political correspondent for business insider sonam sheth. 48% of americans said the senate has enough information to decide whether to convict and remove the president. 44% said the senate needed witnesses to testify and this other poll, "washington post," abc news poll, 47% saying the senate should vote to convict and remove the president. 49% said they should not, and 66% agreeing that the senate should call new witnesses to testify in the impeachment trial. we have talked a lot about how republicans are possibly looking at these polls to decide which direction they want to go in. how much into account do you think senate republicans are taking some of the polling? >> i think the big number to focus on is the 66% figure that you just cited because it shows that a clear majority of the country thinks that the senate trial would not be complete and

this tape provided -- well, this tape of lev parnas and igor fruman talking to the president in 2018 about the removal of ambassador marie yovanovitch. we have a little bit more we're going to play right now. >> the biggest problem there where we need to start, we've got to get rid of the ambassador. she's still left over from the clinton administration. >> the ambassador [ bleep ] -- >> basically walk around telling everybody, wait, he's going to get impeached. just wait. >> really? "take her out, get rid of her, get rid of her tomorrow." we don't know if parnas is telling -- if he's telling parnas to get rid of her or giuliani. this lends credence to what parnas has been saying publicly about the conversation with the president. this is a year before, a year before joe biden entered the race. it doesn't seem that this conversation is designed to hurt joe biden. maybe, maybe in some ways this evidence helps the president, but it's evidence. it is evidence perks and it's new. >>

fruman did stand out. they weren't your typical visitors to the capital. but i had no reason to believe that they were up to anything nefarious. i think mr. parnas is being honest about his interactions with rudy giuliani, with the president and with others. however, what does stand out to me is that when i met with mr. parnas, he did go out of his way to express how close he was with the president, how big a supporter of the president he was, that he was going to be having dinner soon with the president at mar-a-lago. these days, it seems like mr. parnas is either distancing himself from the president and his allies or certainly exposing them in terms of some. conversations that he was privy to that contradict some of the public statements that you've heard from the white house and from other allies of the president. >> that is interesting. you meet with a lot off constituents and he is someone who stuck out to you. does it seem credible to you that all these folks who apparently met with him at the white house would have no recollection of it? >> i certa
