i have a meeting with the fta administrator on wednesday. i will be talking to him directly as it relates to central subway and this local ordinance. >> [inaudible] >> let me say this. this is common throughout all federally funded projects. we've always had a provision that says that we will implement all of our local laws to the extent they do not violate any federal rules and regulations. it's as simple as that. what we are trying to do is make sure that the feds understand what we're trying to do. there are a lot of provisions. when we crafted this local hiring ordinance with the board -- there's a lot of flexibility. you have to look at the language. the flexibility allows us to work on federal contracts without conflict. there are many aspects of this, whether it is our reach, whether it is educating the family of contractors to use city build, to look at where the work force is coming from -- a lot of those aspects will result -- they will get jobs to our local residents. >> thank you to everyone for attending the press conference tod

central subway continues to demonstrate support and commitment from funding partners of the fta. currently under review with mtc, the supplemental insurance funding component will be addressed by your action today. to prove the identification of additional state funding of the need arises in the future. to give you a brief update on what is happening out there. south of market on fourth street, the shots are clearly under way. this will be completed next month. this year we have awarded our second contract in the union square area. january, on the left, we have the pedestrian what -- pedestrian walkway barriers. the photograph on the right is a demolition of a sub-sidewalk basement. vacated for the future union square market street station. asking owners and businesses to vacate their basement, the shot on the right is an example of one of the basements vacated. finally, some of the realizing of the sewers and potential subway project that will cross stockton street, this is an example of gary and the realigning of the sewer, complete sewer realignment of the infrastructure. this

i do not think that a bilateral fta is a mechanism that the u.s. needs to use to deal with currency manipulation. we have had this problem before it. is started when richard nixon took the south of the gold standard and it came up in 1985. rather than with just dealing with it on an ad hoc basis, we really need to deal with it -- the issue of currency manipulation. the agreement woul have hurt the auto industry. that would have created a lot of job loss. i think with this trigger, the u.s. tariff holding steady for five y and korea immediately eliminating their terror of and if there is a problem, the u.s. can stop tariff reductions on autos. i think the administration needs to enforce that. they need to call it a very closely. i think it gives us a good mechanism. why should it be passed? one thing i would argue is that u.s. credibility. i just think the u.s. cannot negotiate agreements and then sit around on them for five years. particularly when we are negotiating them to some extent for foreign-policy reasons. it is the wrong signal. the agreem
