there was a water main break here in the city of fullerton.ruise have been working to repair that. it caused street flooding. more than 100 aftershocks have hit so far sense this quake happened. those magnitudes ranging from two to 3.6. >> this is very normal, with you the normal includes a very wide range of rates of aftershocks. so this is on the higher side of the average, nothing at all abnormal about it because we see very large variations and there have been plenty of sequences with even more aftershocks than this one but it's definitely a good healthy aftershock sequence. >> about 2000 residents were without power last night here in southern california when that quake struck. as for this house, again, the owners, we are told, were out of town when the quake struck. we are told that they are on their way back home. but what happens now is city inspectors have to get in there, and they have to deem the house safe before these residents can be allowed back in. >>> unreal. stephanie, we heard experts say this is normal, but this is the seco

as you said, we are here in fullerton, not far from the e epicent epicenter. am standing in front of a home that has been cordoned off by the fullerton fire department. this house is one of 26 homes that have been red tagged by the fire department meaning this house is uninhabitable. take a look at some of the damage. i will have my camera zoom in. you can see a huge crack in the foundati foundation, to the side of the garage. >> crack runtion all the way up near the front door. now, luckily, the folks who live here were not home when the quake struck. we are told they are expected back at any moment. as you said, jonathan, that quake registered 5.1 on the richter scale. it hit at 9:09 p.m. last night near lajavra. that is the epicenter, about 20 miles outside of downtown los angeles. take a look at some video that was shot the moment the quake struck. these diners were at a restaurant in california. they were literally shaken out of their seats by -- by the quake. and, also, some of the other damage that we have seen in the area in nearby braya california, th

the next proposal is related to fullerton. -- fult on. there is repaving at the route and it would include 17 bulbs and would compliment our outside l project. we have heard concerns particularly at the planning commission about the bulb at mccall and visadero and it will roll out about the same time the bulb would be built and would allow more space for passengers to wait and more space for the shelter. we were able to, there is two business owners that would be affected by these bulbs. we were able to communicate with one yesterday and send him more details about the proposal and hope the work with him on things like potentially sidewalk amenities that we could incorporate into bulb to compliment his business. then the big corridor project is portrero. here we completely integrated with the dpw great streets project. so this project in addition to creating a southbound transit lane and bulbs would also include a landscape media and a larger sidewalk? front of sf general and there was a lot of outreach and it would improve parking spaces

jane wells is near the epicenter in fullerton, california. >> reporter: i'm not kidding, 30 seconds agoanother aftershock. felt like a subway going under the street. wasn't strong but enough to look at each other, like did you feel that. a few minutes ago, the inspectors arrived from the city, to look at some of the houses. we have video of that. they are at this house next to me trying to determine if the houses they have red-tagged are now safe to inhabit. they are being inhabited whether red-tagged or not. broken dishes may be easier to fix than rattled nerves as friday's quake was a little unusual because most people were awake. it happened at 9:00 at night. usually these things for no particular reason happen in the morning. a few structures still red-tagged, school is closed. the biggest problem has been restoring gas and water as pipes were broken but it has been a long time since we had a couple quakes of this magnitude and even for veterans of earthquakes like resident linda lenn, i will h let her describe what it felt like. >> just scared, very scared. scary. i never scary lik

jane wells joins us from fullerton, california, just five miles from the epicenter of the quake on fridays where a lot of the damage happened. these homes have broken glass, chimney damage on the inside and in some cases, people have not been allowed to return home. though the epicenter may have been five miles away. this is the area where the quake was hardest hit, hardest felt. at this point, though, a lot of people have been allowed to go back. there are a half dozen homes that are red tagged and one commercial building. 19 people still having to find other places to live. fortunately no major damage or injuries again, just like last week's encino quake. crews are mostly having to work to restore broken water mains and gas lines. disneyland had to shut down some rides on friday night but was operating normally on saturday. there have been over -- well over 100 aftershocks from friday night's 5.1 quake centered along the northern orange county, southern l.a. county lines. here's why this quite is disconcerting. it could do a lot more damage to downtown los angeles than the big one along

our jane wells is live in fullerton, california, with more.ehind me is red tagged and four others on this street are as well even though we are seeing people come out of them. one local resident -- we're not far from disneyland here, said friday night is like an e-ticket ride. if you look at surveillance video of how it looked friday night, there's been another home red tagged, at least one and a commercial building authorities are not letting people go back into. one local elementary school is closed for the day as they assess the damage. as you said there have been well over 100 aftershocks from that 5.1 quake. cal tech calls that a "normal pattern." it appears though that our quake drought in l.a. is over. here's the problem with this latest tembler. the fault runs under downtown l.a. and into hollywood, it's a heavily populated corridor. the same system caused the 1957 quake which you're seeing file tape of now. it's not the recent quake but the one from 1987. excuse me. that was a 5.9. wow, excuse me, guys. a 5.9 which killed eight people
