with me now to discuss, our gabbie orr, white house reporter and chris wipl. with the book, you've covered chief of staffs and talked to more than a dozen of them going back some decades. you look at the early stages of how this particular white house is dealing with impeachment. what's the strategy at play here? >> it's a great question. >> is there a strategy? >> the fundamental problem with the impeachment defense is there is no defense. trump's actions are not defensible. the political equivalent of shooting someone on fifth avenue. maybe almost as many witnesses and plenty of clear cut evidence and so the strategy seems to be, let's pretend that this is normal. and let's try to smear joe biden. the problem with that is i don't think the access play book works here. partly because there really is no there there with biden and the other problem, all the evidence will be laid out methodically in the house and there will be a trial in the senate and senators will have to go to the floor of the senate and make a vote against overwhelming evidence of high crime
