gabe, tell us a little of what will be expected.w he will go into a private residence and meet with those dissidents. >> reporter: that's right, francis, he has a very busy day here in havana. after the ceremony, he is supposed to meet with the cuban foreign minister. he is supposed to have a joint news conference with the foreign minister. after that there is a reception at the chief of mission's office here in havana, and that is where he will meet with civic leaders from the cuban community as well as those cuban political dissidents. it did get some attention that those dissidents were not invited to this ceremony. the reason the state department gave for that was, one, this was a government to government event, but also because of the space issue. but the fact is, francis, this is a very delicate event in u.s. and cuba relations. cuban political dissidents perhaps had a deference with the cuban government. the u.s. may not have had them here, but secretary kerry is expressing he still hears the voices of those dissidents. and a

>> gabe, let's talk a little bit about that testimony of mr.rie's classmates because many say that it was very good news for the prosecution, as somebody that has followed this trial, been in the courtroom, how believable do you think the jury took those statements from his classmates? >> well, his classmates, some of them seem reluctant when they were talking on the stand, when they were present we'd some of these exchanges. i can tell you, luke, sitting in court, it was very uncomfortable. some of the testimony was very graphic. again, the defense is trying to argue that, look, just because these are teenagers making these crude statements among each other that this was sort of locker room talk or at least talk that would happen within young men inside a dorm. they argue that this does not mean that he did have intercourse with this young girl. it will be -- remains to be seen how the jury took some of this testimony. and whether the prosecution was successful in bringing up these inconsistencies, what they argue as inconsistencies between wh

let's go live there, gabe is with us. to what extent has the u.n.he cautious optimism or is it perhaps hoping to apply a little pressure on the president to sign? >> well, the u.s. has been circulating a u.n. security council draft resolution since the middle of last week that would put targeted sanctions and an arms embargo against the country. the u.s. was hoping to move very fast on this, but it hasn't happened yet. it's clearly a pressure tactic mostly lead by the u.s. we don't know how russia and china stand on this proposed resolution, but we did hear from the deputy russian ambassador to the u.n., who stopped to speak to us reporters for a few minutes. he said that given this is -- this resolution is a pressure tactic, now that this potentially could be signed on wednesday, he said perhaps this resolution isn't even needed anymore. now we failed to hear so far from the united states on their response to that, but clearly, there's a chance that the u.s. would still potentially want to keep this resolution on the table as a pressure tactic to s

nbc's gabe gutierrez join mess now from outside the courthouse. gabe, what's the latest?, good afternoon. the defense is really tried to portray owen labrie as a high-achieving soccer captain on scholarship and planned to at tend harvard and become a minister. central to their case they sclam that labrie never actually had intercourse with his then 15 yerld accuser. prosecutors allege he sexually assaulted her last year on the campus of st. paul's, one of the nation's most elite prep schools as part of a ritual known as the senior salute. yesterday during his testimony labrie acknowledged he had deleted 119 facebook message on the advice of his mother. in one exchange he told a friend he tried every trick in the book to have sex with the girl. n now, the defense says the crude jokes do not make him guilty. and today during their closing arguments his high profile defense attorney jay carney says that labrie is not a saint, he's a teenager. now the jury has begun their deliberations. a jury of nine men and three women will decide his fate. if convicted labrie faces up to 2
