gableman's subpoenas told officials to turn over records.ave access to many of those documents. he hasn't explained why he wants them to produce new copies of them. he contended last year without evidence that the election was stolen. more recently he has said he doesn't understand how elections work. just the facts of this story, the poor reporters, right? you can read between the lines and hear them being like, we know this is crazy but this is literally what happened, this is just the facts. not everybody is being that sort of polite about it, though. this was this morning from the wisconsin state editorial board at "usa today" published by "the journal sentinel," saying, quote, michael gableman is flushing taxpayer money down the drain to support a lie. wisconsin citizens should demand he stop. this week the attorney general in wisconsin took that advice. he says he believes the way this trump appointee is going out, this so-called audit in wisconsin, is actually against the law. he described it as corrosive to our democracy. he said out

gableman has refused to say who is working with him on this so-called audit. also a trump appointee, a trump white house lawyer, who last year said online, the presidential election was stolen fair and square. these are the two guys wisconsin republicans have picked to run their inpartial investigation into whether or not joe biden really won wisconsin in 2020. it's a trump white house lawyer and a trump political appointee. i'm sure they'll be completely fair though. as we have covered extensively on the show the audit thus far has been doing a bang up job, if you take the meaning of bang up literally, it's literally -- it has led to some exasperated coverage in the local press in wisconsin. reporters trying to cover figure out how to cover this thing with a straight face. for example, these are real sentences in a real news article about real things, that this about this trump appointee macon quote, gableman two weeks ago issued subpoenas and demanding interviews this friday with city clerks and the director of the bipartisan state elections commission. with

quote, former supreme court justice gableman, head of republican review of wisconsin election, says he does not understand how elections work. this is not the onion and this is not a hyperbolic headline. the paper quotes this judge telling them in an interview that he, quote, like most people, quote, does not have a comprehensive understanding or even any understanding of how elections work. he says he has no understanding of how elections work. he is running the election audit for wisconsin republicans. at taxpayer expense. and that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the sort of comedy of errors that are surrounding this election audit that he's trying to do. last week, the same guy issued subpoenas. this is the first time wisconsin lawmakers have issued subpoenas from the legislature in nearly 50 years. he sent out subpoenas to election officials and county officials across the state, subpoenas that were riddled with mistakes. in one subpoena to green bay, the green bay city clerk's name was misspelled. and the subject line of the email issuing the subpoena, also misspel

gableman, the man leading the wisconsin investigation. but, you know. we'll see. as if. right? this will get worse before it gets better. in terms of exposing the overall scheme here, some interesting developments in d.c. tonight. the committee investigating the january 6th attack on the capitol by trump supporters who are trying to stop the election being certified by violently attacking the u.s. capitol, tonight that investigation sent a new subpoena to a man named jeff clark. jeff clark was the justice department official who appears to have hatched this scheme with trump to have the justice department declare publicly that there was some kind of serious fraud in the election. his idea was that the justice department would announce that and then they would direct republican-led state legislatures to ignore the election results because of all this fraud. the justice department was looking at. it would direct -- he wanted the justice department to direct state legislatures to not certify the election results. well, he has now been subpoenaed by the committee that's investigati
