let's bring in cnn's jason carroll in moore's hometown of gadsden, alabama. what are you hearing there? >> look, a lot of things. first of all you can just stand out here on a corner and you'll get people who will drive by and shout out support for roy moore, so it's very clear that roy moore still enjoys a lot of support here in his hometown of gadsden. as you know last night, a state gop steering committee made up of 21 members, real local power players here in the state, met last night and there were many questions, what decision would they reach? would they in some way try to disqualify moore. would they try to invalidate him? it's too late to pull his name off the ballot. would they ask voters to write in a candidate, that could cause a whole lost of problems. so what ended up happening is, state leaders ended up continuing to side with roy moore. you have heard a number of people defending him here. part of the defense as you know coming from his attorney you heard there. we should also point out that nelson's attorney, gloria allred, has spoken to cnn

in gadsden did, the town where moore was then the prosecutor and she said as a deputy d.a. in gadsden when roy moore was there, it was common knowledge about his propensity for teenage girls. i'm appalled these women are being secured for the truth. raising the question as to whether or not this is a classic blame the victim. >> i think that both "the washington post" in their reporting on roy moore and i would say "the new york times" on our reporting on harvey weinstein, reporters take very carefully these accusations. as a result, that's why you have the reports and stories of the people around these women saying yes, this really happened contemporaneously. i would say that that also was the case when we were doing reporting on now president trump and talking about the women accusing him of acting inappropriately. in each of these cases not only did these women go on the record republican risk their reputations and reporters pushed them to find people who could say what was happening. what's remarkable is not so much that mish mccobble is calling for royal moore to leave

for you, the common thread in these stories and a number of others is the gadsden mall. what have they told you? >> so we've talked to at least a dozen women and some men who worked at the mall in the late '70s, early '80s or spent time there and they tell us that roy moore who was at that time in his early 30s and an assistant district attorney was a regular, that especially on friday and saturday nights, you know, he could be seen walking through the mall and frequently chatting up teenage or, you know, young women who were working there at, you know, jewelry counters and a photo booth and in sears and throughout the mall. >> all right, i need to read a part of your piece that stood out to me. jenna richardson was summoned to the principal's office over the intercom in her classroom. she had a phone call where she said, i said hello, richardson recalls, and the male on the other hand said, jenna, this is roy moore, i was like, what. he said what are you doing, and i said, i'm in trigonometry class. so while roy moore can say he didn't have -- there wasn't any sexual mi

"i said, 'hello.' and the man on the other line said, 'gina, this is roy moore.' i was like, 'what?' he said, 'what are you doing?' i said, 'i'm in trig class.'"
