trace gallagher's back with us now for more on that. what did you find out, trace?egyptair has had five major crashes, including the crash near nantucket in 1999 that killed all 217 people on board. the ntsb ruled it was a deliberate act by the co-pilot and despite ample evidence from the cockpit voice recorder, egyptair refused to accept that conclusion, instead calling it mechanical failure. egyptair also had a plane hijacked two months ago by a man claiming to have a suicide belt. plane landed safely on the island country of cypress, the suicide belt turned to be a fake. egyptair has been losing money for years. investigators will certainly be looking to see egyptair is following all guidelines for mechanical safety. of course every time there is a crash, investigators focus a lot on the type of airplane. in this case, an airbus a-320 which in recent years has had a series of incidents. you'll recall, germanwings flight 9525 that crashed off an eight-minute descent in the french alps killing 150 people. in that crash the co-pilot locked the pilot out of the cockp

but first we go to trace gallagher with our investigation. >> reporter: two years ago lee mccullom thed was featured in the cnn documentary chicagoland. he was pointed to as an example of a troubled young man who had been shot twice but with the help of ground breaking programs, he moved away from gang vie skplens got into college. at the time, he said one of his big worries was ending up back on the streets. it was on those streets early yesterday where the 22-year-old mccullom was shot and killed. chicago police say he was a documented gang member who lost his girlfriend in a shooting less than a month ago. but lee mccullom is just one tragic tale is what is now an alarming trend. a skyrocketing murder late in more than 20 major cities. in the first three months of this year, chicago has seen 141 murders, compared to 83 in thestr first three months of last year. the murder rates in vegas and dallas have almost doubled with more than a dozen other cities seeing a sharp increase. new york and miami are among the few cities seeing a decrease. and after checking the numbers, fbi director

trace gallagher has been following this story and he joins us live now. hi, trace. >> hi, gretchen.last known surveillance images of tricia todd were taken a week ago at a public supermarket in florida. they say what's interesting about the video is that the 33-year-old mom appears to be in good spirits and in good shape. that night she dropped off some medication with her ex husband for her 2-year-old daughter and then apparently she just vanished. she didn't pick up her child the next day and didn't show up to her job at a hospice care. tricia todd's car was found parked in her neighbor's driveway. the keys were still in the ignition. and her purse was left inside, but her wallet and her cell phone were gone. so investigators examined her credit cards, phone records, and social media accounts, but they came up empty. here's the martin county sheriff. listen to him. >> as of this moment, we have forensically examined tricia's car. we have forensically examined her home. we have forensically examined her former husband's car. and there is not one bit of evidence of a crime. >> inter
