almost none were built with garages, so any time there is a garage it's been converted. and they destroyed the front gardens, destroyed trees, destroyed on-street public parking for that matter to put these in their houses. i have seen the damage it's done to the neighborhood. i have seen, you know, the pressure it puts. the user conflicts, negative affect on muni and also seen how it has increased the value -- the prices of the property in the neighborhood to where most people can't afford to buy in my neighborhood anymore because the cost of the parking increases the cost of the building so much that somebody like me who couldn't afford to buy a house with a garage, it took me literally five years to find one that i could afford because everyone had put garages in. i don't like that you are doing anything that will encourage people to think, well, if my tenants won't rent it, i will find five others who will. it puts more pressure on people to think it is okay for me to spend money on the garage when really the grounds should be used for housing. we are having a terrib

resolution approving and authorizing an amendment to the lease of the union square garage. >> thank you very much. we have both from mta on this item. >> thank you, supervisors, for hearing this item. what is before you is an amendment to the lease of the union square garage or uptown corporation between recreation park department and the uptown parking corporation. it is required because, as you know, the mta redeemed the outstanding revenue bonds on four of our nonprofits. and as part of that redeeming that the prior leases were no longer effective. so we have to enter into a new lease or as two of the garages have chosen is enter into an advisory capacity, not a lease. out of the four nonprofits, two of the nonprofits will no longer continue to have a lease structure but uptown, which includes center stockton managed by the mta and union square will continue to have a lease. japan center, which did not have outstanding debt also wanted to continue a lease. so this amendment before you gives us 180-day window to come back to you with a new negotiated lease without the bond debt servic

tim lee, who did a geogrouting for his new garage and undercut my garage with the geogrouting to do the project. i hired mr. mudky for that project. he met with the engineers. we made a couple of improvements through a couple of structural questions. they built the project. there was never a complaint. there was never a hearing. there was never an appeal. so it's really -- in fact, he also paid for my engineering. so there was no battle in that issue. secondly, this year alone, i let mr. butch come across into my yard by scrastleddin scaffoldine backyard to set up and put in sheer wall and new stucco that he wanted on the wall of my house. he said i'll pay you 5,000 to do it. i said you don't have to pay me. if it's a good project and you need to do it and it will help, that's fine. so he came in, he did it. at that time, everybody was happy. however, he then decided to do the garage. now he's been a year and a half from this state that you see on the drawing. it's been like that with the big dumpster coming out from the backyard for a year and a half. i know you have a letter from one

some with the garage door opener still attached to the visor. police say there's a string of at least 30 car break-ins over the past two weeks. homeowners say they rifled through the cars and stolen things like credit cards and bags. in some cases, the thieves got the garage door openers in the cars and let themselves in, stealing valuables there, too. police are reiterating the importance of locking your car doors and making sure you don't have any valuables in plain sight. that is advice homeowners in the area are taking. >> there are neighbors who have been here for a long time who have said this has never happened in this neighborhood but now we have to be more vigilant. so i think people are helping each other remind each other to close garage doors and lock car doors and things like that. i certainly will not be leaving any car doors open. >> police do think these cases are related but don't have any suspects. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> the search is on for two suspects accused of attacking a man outside his home. the suspect approache

in a single family home as if they were the fifth and mission garage. you have to have parking equipment to gather data on the garage. you have to pay a bond. you have to pay approximately $1,000 fee, which might be significant higher than annual revenue or parking tax you are paying. you have to be fingerprinted at hall of justice, fill out a significant amount of paper work and pay monthly, just like a large garage. this legislation would do a couple things. first it would dramatically simplify the payment of parking tax for people who are renting out up to five parking spots connected to a residential property. renting out up to five to non-residents. those would no longer have to have equipment, no longer have to post bond, not have to pay fee or fingerprinted. would simply have to fill out a very simple paper work, then pipe less frequently than monthly. right now we have three months in the legislation. i will be offering an amendment today to make it an annual payment. so it will be a dramatically easier process to be able to pay the parking tax.

you know, one of the issues is, is there a garage? often there isn't. the question arises, where are we going to put the car? are we going to have to drive around all night looking for a parking place or is there someplace that can be rented? it would make it easier for people to connect with spaces that might be even as much as over 1,200 feet away from the residents and might encourage more buyers to consider places that don't have their own garages as a possible thing to buy because people do have cars. in fact, i think i'd heard a statistic there are more cars than people in san francisco. i'm not sure if that is true, how many cars are registered in san francisco. i think it is very close, a considerable number. though some people do not own a car, some own more than one. i don't know what that stat is but obviously they are. the only other thing i would say is i think it is going to regulate something that has been going on all the time. i think one of the mentions that the supervisor talked about was the elimination of the bond, or there is a bon

the prior garage, one of these parcels, was separated off into a separate parcel in the 20s. and was allowed to be developed as a small single-family home wedged between these two large parcels. in 2002, this same owner and same architect brought forward an application to do avert ^ addition. several d.r.s were filed, four, as a matter of fact. negotiations took place with this architect and with this project sponsor. this vertical addition was eliminated and the building was replaced with a contemporary design but low-profile, attractive building. it is a single-family dwelling that went from 900 square feet to over 200,000 -- to over 200 with that modification. the vertical was not approved but dropped with neighbors in consultation and agreement each of the four d.r.s be dropped. this is the building before it was remodeled. it had a pitched roof. you see a dumpster in front of it. you can see the roof line of 615 and 601 very prominently from this point up the block. this came from google street view. you can see the building between them on the 20-foot lot. the question
