i love that a garden reaches all the senses, all the emotions and by garden, it's not many acres, it's just the tactile part of something green, that does something, studies show how blood pressures are reduced, and in nursing homes and hospitals, if you're ill, and you see the concrete, or a garden, the benefit of that, we grave beauty -- crave beauty, we crave the ability to walk through a door, and whether it's a fern beside the door that greets us, that says welcome home, i feel like, for my clients in particular, they want the separation between house and home. a house is more structure, home tugs at the heart strings, and that's the garden. to me, it's a basic human instinct and something we need, and i see that, whether it's your central parks, or your own 80 acres you live on for yourself. i think the opportunity to create that for people is a true honor. because you're able to translate something they need, that they're longing for, and able to create that separation between house and home. >> that's very inspiring. let me maybe, we're getting slowly to the end of our conversa

i am a lazy gardener. there is already so much to do and it is 110 degrees outside and you don't want to do so much of the work. you can let the work be done for you with plants. if you know what plants are native, that is a huge help. i love it when people say, i cut these flowers and used these church for sunday. i through these flowers out and they didsun the work. that looks like i have been doing something great all week long, but sunday morning, i just went and cut them. you can plant something that is needed or thrives in your particular environment. you planted a tree at your front door, you didn't plant a small shrub. tore is so much more time take care of something improperly planted. yourng what to grows in zone and what is native and raising that makes you look better. say towhat do you you live on a farm and it looks very attractive. maybe we should move there. what do you tell someone who lives in a more dense, urban area, who may be does not have a big backyard? -- maybe does not have a big

our garden is quite new. not long ago, it was a black top parking lot on a block where conditions are very, very challenging. now this is happening. every one of these flowers was grown from seed or root in our garden and greenhouse provided by rec and park. it's been an incredible opportunity and boon to the community. i've included some chard and kale leaves in here to represent the almost 500 pound of food that's been harvested and distributed. our group is very diverse in age, in cultural background, in circumstances. we're sharing gardening lore. in china, we cooked it this way. oh, my mother in mexico grew these flowers and made tea out of them when we were sick. we planted it this way in ohio. and we're also bonding over food. never fails. food always wings. we usually have a loaf of zucchini bread or something made from the produce of the garden and we have a community potluck that's been a beautiful experience. this has been an amazing thing for the community. 5 want to thank park and rec so much. ou

as you know, the community gardens programs overseas 38 gardens in the city. in honour of national parks and recreation month in july, representatives from our 2600 community gardeners who support these spaces, these are our community garden coordinators, were honoured by the board of supervisors. if the world cup was not enough and you want more of soccer excitement in our parks, the street soccer san francisco cop is set to descend upon union square on july 28th and 29t 29th. street soccer usa has been a tremendous partner of ours and helped communities in many communities with working in collaboration with the park to create safe spaces to play and to provide positive programming for underserved youth and adults in our most vulnerable communities. our other big soccer partner is out in civic centre plaza today operating a soccer camp. if you walk out there you will see close to 100 kids out there on the north side of civic centre plaza enjoying camp. tonight, while i am at it, is a civic centre comments third thursday events which starts at 5:00. it include
