i know people are feeling that burden particularly after an event like garissa. it's unavoidable. it's completely understandable. on the other hand kenya can be extraordinary proud that it stands out as a country. that it welcomes people from their terror, and that kenya stands as a partner to bring to justice those who perpetrate that kind of terror. earlier today i had a chance to meet with a few of the refugees, but i also spoke to students in the largest of kenya's refugee camps. i spoke with them through an internet connection in their classroom. it was moving and extraordinary to talk to a young man who has spent 19 years in a camp, who would love to go home who would love to be somewhere else, who would love to have a job and complete his university education. i talked to one young woman who told me she had been in the camp for years. i asked how long? she said, i was born here. now she's finishing high school. what an extraordinary thing that these children are able to get that far in their education and every single one of them would love to have a job. and every single o

apparently these fighters ambushed them in a village north of the town garissa.peak now for mohamed adow who joins us new from ethiopia. mo what do you know? i know this is breaking as we speak. >> reporter: yeah, well, richelle garissa police are confirm that go they have lost 20 policemen. they were targeted in two different attacks. and policemen who were in a vehicle patrolling the area between the refugees camps and right at the border of somalia and kenya were targeted in an attack. plus there was an i.e.d. and then they opened fire. and in the seconds incidents they said the police officers who were killed were said to be reacting to the distress call from the officers who were targeted in the first attack. police are confirming up to 20 killed. and they say the policemen who were attacked some of them the survivors fled on foot and ended up in the refugees camp which is about 10 or so kilometers from where the attack took place. now the area where the police officers were said to be headed is a scene of annal that burr incursion last wreak where al-shabab

let's go live to garissa. what is the latest on the attack on the kenyan police officers? >> authorities are saying that they are involved in a massive security operation around the refugee camp. there is the refugee camp that holds nearly 400,000 refugees mostly from somalia and the attack on policeman on the settlement of the border between somalia and kenya. rpg's were used by al shabab in the attack. most of them had to run for their lives after they were outgunned. the government insists only one soldier was killed and eight others injured however eyewitnesses are telling other stories. this acetic, ambush is not a usual tactic. they attacked villagers at the border and basically approached to the villagers there. what is their motive? what is their end game? >> well, al shabab militiamen be getting bolder. in the past, they used bombings and targeted kill ins whenever they carried out attacks like this in kenya but are getting bolder carrying out daylight ambush against security personnel, but coming into villages and towns at the border preaching to the people, aski
