so are many parts of garrett county as well. here in washington we are slowly drying off after a sunday washout. storm 4 meteorologist tom kierein joins us right now with the first look at our forecast. tom, good morning. >> good morning, barbara. we add morning showers that have tapered off temporarily around the metro area. we have had some continuing rain and snow to our west. there is the wide view of the radar showing the extent of this storm. we are getting precipitation from quebec across new england. all the way down into pennsylvania. virginia, west virginia, and into even north carolina. so it has quite a wide extent. the heaviest snows have been in pennsylvania. already had a foot of snow in laurel summit, pennsylvania, 60 miles southeast of pittsburgh. frostburg, garrett county, they have 6 inches of snow there. that continues farther to the south, too. down near elkins, west virginia. closer to washington, that little pink and white area along the blue ridge getting wet snow up there in the higher elevations above 2

five or 6 inches of snow reported in garrett county. you can see the snow is still coming down at some of those areas. around here we still see some scattered light rain showers at times may be mixed with a wet snowflakes. the rain did help with the dry ground conditions and lost almost all the pollen out of the atmosphere. no grass are we pollen and the weekend was really low compared to what we have been suffering through the past several weeks. it will likely bounce back but for now the rain has helped out for allergy sufferers. 47 degrees in downtown baltimore right now. the normal high as about 20 degrees higher than that. 44 in manchester, around 50 right on the eastern shore. 51 down at ocean city, but 32 degrees, freezing this afternoon at oakland and garrett county. a winter storm warning continuing until 2:00 a.m. in garrett county. winter weather advisor is in allegheny county. as you drive up into the higher elevations, the rain changes over into snow and we will get a few more inches tonight. tonight some of that snow could

not much going on right now over garrett county but you can continue to see light showers over the next couple of hours. this is all associated with a low pressure system put -- pushing east, at least increasing some of the rain chances through the next couple of hours and into tonight. in fact, a large upper level system pushing into the east and said in place the next couple of days and that is why on and off we have at least a slight chance of showers all the way into the early week. but the storm system advancing we are really seeing the winds pick up. the temperatures are not that bad. if you just look at the thermometer -- 63 at the inner harbor, but it does not feel that great out there because we have strong winds pushing in. 30 mile an hour wind gusts at the airport, 18 miles an hour at annapolis and 31 at oakton city and you see it extended all the way to the pennsylvania state line. that is increasing the fire danger. a dry conditions. the ground is very dry because we haven't bought much rain and mild temperatures, all that together -- the warning out all across the state, e

most of garrett county 4 to 6 inches of snow.robably see in the picture it's actually still coming down right now. luckily as i mentioned haven't had a lot of problems. my guess is we're probably pretty much done but the reason of course we've got 6 inches here and you have nothing but conversational snowflakes, we're at 2,800 feet above sea level. and, boy, as you know, every thousand feet you go up you lose about 5 degrees of temperature. the difference between where you are and where we are about 10 or 12 degrees and it has made all the difference. winter raging on here in the middle of april. >> that is so cool. even the secondary roads you're saying are okay because a lot of the municipalities put their equipment away and that's been trouble for up in pennsylvania. >> yeah. they probably had a little more snow there and the ground in pennsylvania is probably a little colder as well. but here it was really, really warm over the course the weekend. even way up here high in the mountains. it was in the 70s. mid 70s on saturday.

major garrett from national white house journal joins us.ve written about this and have talked about this. 2033 will be here before we know it. today's news makes it seem so ominous. why is this social security funding drying up faster than expected? >> it's one of the ripple effects of this prolonged economic recession. trustees for medicare and social security said not only is the economy not growing, hourly wages are falling and the hours worked by workers are also falling which means there are less taxable income to go into the social security system to fund future benefit payouts. when you have fewer hours, there's less tax revenue coming in which means solvency becomes an issue sooner. you talked about 2033. just so the audience understands, if congress does nothing about the current benefit and taxation structure for social security and that trust fund expires in 2033, instantly social security beneficiaries will see a 25% benefit cut. i don't mean over time. i mean instantly. on the disability side disability trust funds will expire
