let's get right to garrett haake he covers the trump campaign, he's in west palm beach, florida. and danny cevallos. garrett, the supreme court's ruling come before super tuesday, what else are we hearing from the former president and his campaign. >> reporter: yeah, the court wanted to clear this out before voters in these states, colorado and maine, they wanted to have this kind of out of the way. donald trump thanked the court and sort of congratulated them. he also learned the opportunity for the court's decision to lump all of the legal cases both criminal and civil into the one big category he likes to talk about, election interference. arguing without much evidence the tone, all efforts by president joe biden and doj to defeat him by law. more to point, he pushed ahead to the next question, the question of presidential immunity. that question has frozen the two federal cases against him particularly the federal case in d.c. related to january 6th. that argument will be on april 22nd. he argued that the presidents need complete immunity to do their job. >> thank you so much

garrett, good to have you.n when she says it's in the past and we've learned a lot? >> yeah, look, i learned a lot from this interview, and what i saw was the struggle that she and i think a lot of republicans have between trying to push the party into the modern way elections are conducted, encouraging folks to vote by mail and vote early and embrace those tactics while also not giving up some of the lies that are at the center of the 2020 campaign that somehow the election was fraudulent or somehow stolen from donald trump. so what you're seeing is an effort by the rnc to try and push this forward, the lawsuits that she's talking about, trying to tighten up ballot access and voters requirements in different states to try to convince their voters essentially that some result -- all the results will be legitimate and perhaps not just donald trump winning would be the kind of thing that would make them happy. she made clear across the course of this interview, it is very much donald trump's party. they will foll

, so garrett, is it the understanding of those in trump's circle that using rhetoric like blood bathtalking about car imports is part of conscious purposeful effort or just something he says? >> yeah, jose, i think it's mostly the latter. those who have been around donald trump a long time understand this is largely the way he talks just about anything and they think the complaints about this language from the left is hyperbole and meant to be a distraction and meant to invoke images of january 6th and things like that that might damage donald trump in a general election. that said, he's aware of this blowback. you just showed the truth social posts in which he continues to try to clean up these comments and make sure people understand the full context. using this kind of language and particularly leaving it open ended and that's just the least of it commentary out there allows these comments to be a political rorschach test where supporters of donald trump can see one thing, his opponents can see something else, and never the two can agree on what he means by the words he says. >> y

garrett haake is with the former president outside mar-a-lago. and nbc's aaron gilchrist is covering president biden. listening to the former president, it seems like he can barely wait to dispatch of nikki haley. what is the rush and what does the campaign hope to get out of tonight, maybe some voters he struggled with in other states? what is their goal, just to end it? >> reporter: yeah, i think that's exactly right. even though she's not winning states, every time nikki haley is on the ballot and gets 20, 30, 40% of the vote, she exposes a vulnerability that donald trump has within the republican electorate and the general election electorate at large. the trump campaign would like to shut that down as much as possible so they can to the degree it is possible with the candidate that they have pivot toward the general election and try to focus more on joe biden and less on this, you know, intermural republican fight. so they would like to try to put this away. they understand they cannot win the nomination outright mathematically tonight, but

>> you know, honestly, garrett covered it pretty well.o not think it is likely to be reversed by an appeals court. it didn't have enough to go through with the hearing in the first time. if this wasn't a former president, i don't think it would have happened. i think it is interesting, i've seen this happen one other time and it only happens to female d.a.s when it does happen. but the real blow here is you got to put fani willis on the stand, ask her some very embarrassing questions about her romantic life and people are judging her harshly for it. the practical impact is that wade stepping down means that she now has to go find someone else who is willing to work on this case, and you heard information during the hearing that indicated nobody wanted to take this case because the pressure that is associated with it. so, i don't expect it to be reversed on appeal. however, a serious blow has already been dealt to the case, and the only caveat is that if fani willis finds a way forward, which she will, take a shot at the devil, you better

garrett haake has our report. >> reporter: tonight the fate of former president trump's most famous properties could be up in the air, with trump attorneys telling a judge he's unable to secure bond in the $464 million civil fraud judgment against him. asking the judge for an emergency stay. guarantors won't accept real estate as collateral but want nearly a half billion dollars in cash, which trump's company doesn't have, his lawyers say. if he cannot post bond for the full amount by next week, democratic new york attorney general letitia james could start seizing his assets, potentially even his trump tower penthouse. in their filing trump attorneys argue the penalty is grossly disproportional when there were, quote, no victims, no damages and no actual financial losses in the case. it comes as the trump campaign also faces blowback amid mr. trump's new inflammatory rhetoric against what he calls criminal migrants. >> they're not people in my opinion. but i'm not allowed to say that because the radical left says that's a terrible thing to say. these are animals. okay? >> reporter: mr. trump

garrett, i'm fascinated to hear.ell us more about this conversation. >> i had two main takeaways, first, don't expect donald trump or rnc under the leadership of his daughter-in-law to chase all of those nikki haley voters in this summer and fall to come. lara trump made very clear to me they're basically hoping joe biden's policies will push those softer republican voters back into the trump camp. they want to present this as a binary choice and say we would like to have you if you want to come back. we're not going to come get you. the other thing woven throughout the interview, several topics, we touched on the same idea issue trump wants to modernize the tactics goes after votes, early voting, mail-in voting, using tools used by democrats in the last couple of elections. her father-in-law has been quite sour on because of his belief falsely that the 2020 election was stolen from him. she's caught in the middle of trying to push forward tactically while being unwilling to separate from the lie kind of at the basis

haake on this speech, so, garrett, what were some of the other big moments from last night?nderstand we've just heard from the president, is that right? >> reporter: that's exactly right, yeah, the president brought a lot of energy to this speech, republicans argued a little too much political energy, the speaker of the house criticized the speech as hyperpartisan. but what you saw was a bit of campaign, a bit of talk about past accomplishments, and some promises for future action. the president said with a democratic congress he would act to try to restore the protections enshrined in roe versus wade, laying out specific policies on a tax credit for home buyers he'd like to put in place but it was a very political speech and you saw a lot of contrast with the former president. democrats were heartened to see the energy that president biden brought to this and it also renewed some of the questions the president was just asked about, whether he will debate donald trump, something that perhaps democrats will be more excited about having seen the president's performance last ni

garrett, start us off. are jewish lawmakers on the hill -- of course, the highest ranking jewish lawmaker ever elected, chuck schumer -- how are they reacting? >> reporter: the condemnation of the comments started to roll in quickly after that podcast was first posted online yesterday. news organizations began to take notice of it. chuck schumer, the majority lead er was quick to condemn it. he said the comments were part of a hateful rant by donald trump. it's not just democrats. the head of the adl, he said they are defamatory and false. he said serious leaders who care about the alliance should not be making them. looking back, donald trump has spoken in this manner many times, suggesting -- leaning into the dual loyalty anti-semitic trope that exists about american jews, that their loyalty is divided between israel and the united states. this is as far as i have seen him go in making similar comments like this. i'm curious to see throughout the course of the day, president biden is on the road, does his
