released to the public she writes about her ordeal held captive for 18 years by phillip and nancy garrido. people magazine release excerpt from the book. reggie kumar is here with a look at her what she has to say. >> jaycee dugard is now 31 years old, these are new the recent pictures of her inside of people magazine. she was adopted in 1991 when she was just 11 years old. their first night she says that phillip real force her to undress and take a shower with him. after the shower is over, jaycee dugard says that i must be very quiet or i would get in trouble. if i am quite in a good girl everything will be fine. ask him if i can put my clothes back on he chuckles and says the nook. in another excerpt she writes the he says he has to put handcuffs on me but they have a tougher on them so they will not hurt too much. i shake my head know and i said i will not try to get away but in this dugard says the reason that she did not try to escape it was because phillip gave her an image of the world as a scary place made about pedophiles and rapists. i have come to realize that this is not true

and nancy garrido, jaycee dugard close the chapter. behind her now, when she was just 11 years old, kidnapped and kept captive. in her new book, "stolen lighli" she talks about her life in captivity. "the man takes me in his arms and offers comfort. i do not want comfort from this awful man. -- awful man." experts say writing about her experiences will help her. she's there's no details. "he brought in a bucket for me to use as a toilet. i would ask him every day when he was going to let me go home." she endured years of sexual abuse at hands of philip garrido he fathered two daughters with her. at first garrido handcuffed her to keep her from escaping. later he used other measures. he painted the world as a scary place full of rapists and pedophiles. it i wanted my children to be safe. jaycee dugard, afraid to even utter her real name, wrote it down for a policewoman. "it was like breaking an evil spell. i looked at her and said, can i see my mom? she looked at me and said, i guess." >> her book will be released -- and said, yes." >>

the report said even though garrido was a high-risk sex offender, home visits were rare. it said officers never verified if garrido registered as a sex offender and failed to notify state and federal authorities about garrido's failed drug tests. >> normally you can't sue the state or federal government because of what is called immunity. >> former prosecutor gym hammel said there will be hurdles it if dugard decides to sue the federal government. she has a $20 million settlement with the state of california. in 1999 state parole agents took over the job of watching garrido at his antioch home, but failed to discover dugard. >> and i think with the crime he is convicted ever kids napping and raping another woman in a shed, it was pretty fore seeable he would do it again. i don't think they just dropped the ball, they are responsible for him holding her captive so long. >> there is a two-year statute of limitations on negligence that would presumably expire after august 26th the date that philip and flancy garrido were arrested two years ago. abc7 news. >> you can watch di
