price attacked the union garrison at fort davidson at pilot knob missouri and was repulsed there. thomas ewing was in command at fort davidson so this was thomas ewings personal copy of the rebel invasion of missouri and kansas and is some of his pencil note inside where he is marked important passages of this book. when he pulled his book off the shelf and read it and refer back to it in the latter years of his life, we are able to kind of in a sense. into his might and get a sense as to what he felt was important, the passages he thought he really wanted to refer to again and again. it gives you a bit of a sense of what aspects of the campaign he really felt needed be remembered. another rare volume in the collection is a book of tactics, this was published in st. louis in 1861. the interesting thing about this is its a small paperback, pamphlet really, but he goes into detail about how to train soldiers. this is a german translation of hardee's light infantry tactics from the war, and it's written in german. the command or the descriptions i should say a written in german. the
