that was garvin thomas reporting. >>> transitioning over to meteorologist rob mayeda. he had that microclimate forecast. maybe some changes coming? >> yeah, starting to see some cooler changes in parts of the bay area right now. but still fairly hot south of downtown san jose. out by the airport, 82 degrees. areas south of downtown san jose in the 90s. san francisco starting to see the fog come back. 71 degrees right now. the drive across the golden gate bridge shows you the low clouds there. coming up just after 6:00, we've got the giants game coming up. should see temperatures hanging onto the low 70s for the start of the game, then dropping into the 60s. that sea breeze gusty at times as we approach 8:00 and then the winds backing off from the seventh through ninth innings. offshore, you see the low clouds in san francisco, but mid level clouds are going to be coming in. doesn't look like much on the satellite. but as we saw earlier this week, it doesn't take a lot of mid level moisture and some vertical motion provided by a weather system offshore to produce thunde

for that, garvin thomas has a few. >> reporter: the people we've profiled continue to amaze me with their. tonight though updates to three stories about people attempting to overcome three very different types of obstacles, all succeeding in their own way. back in april we introduced to three east bay friends who were preparing to hike the continental divide trip from america's southern to northern borders, all to raise money for the wounded warrior project. >> they fight for our country, so just a way to give back. >> reporter: well, we just got some pictures from the trail from the three. they've made it to colorado. having now hiked more than 1,400 miles, having survived, they tell us, periods of not enough water, too much snow, and nearly being struck by lightning. no less daunting a journey is one that valerie is on, battling stage four lung cancer. in june though we showed you how a simple gesture by her husband, painting his toes purple to make val smile, was being copied by people all over the country. well, now pictures are coming in for value from around the world. turkey, brazi

garvin thomas is here with our bay area proud series. garvin? >> during a talk last week, arthur was asked by a boy if he ever fell out of his wheelchair. he said all the time, but, he said, he always gets back on and gets rolling again. no matter what. >> i want to let you guys know to never give up, stay positive. >> reporter: if karma ever wanted to make a commercial, arthur might make a good pitch man. >> you know, it's tough, but it gets better with time. >> reporter: for what better way to explain what happened to arthur last month than a good turn after so many good deeds. >> life is short. i know that after what i've been through, and i want to leave a mark on this life. >> reporter: arthur's story you might have guessed, didn't start in a good way. this chapter beginning seven years ago with a mugger and a gun in a dark san francisco parking lot. >> it happened so quickly, shot me, the bullet went through my chest, both of my lungs, shattered my spine. >> reporter: arthur awoke a month later to a future in a wheelchair, one that looked

garvin thomas joins us with her inspiring story. >> kim chandler is 38 years old and has down's syndrome. her mother says we should all be as lucky to be born with as much confidence as kim has. certainly on display in this year's special olympics usa games, but what does a real winner do when games are done? keep winning, of course. water, we are told, seeks its own level. always evening out on top. water, it turns out, has been the equalizer in kim chandler's life, as well. the students you see in this swim class where kim volunteers don't know or care about the highs and lows of her life. they only care that when they hit the water -- she's there to catch them. >> i do like it. i like the whole thing. >> reporter: kim was born 38 years ago in thailand, where her family was living. the prognosis for a girl with down's syndrome at that time and in that place was not one full of promise. >> yes, the doctors said maybe, maybe she'll be able to fit in society. >> reporter: but mom nancy says a mainstream education and two loving older sisters gave kim a great foundation. she says kim's nat
