here is garvin thomas with this morning's bay area proud. >> somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 cars drive past the livermore waste water treatment plan on ysabel avenue every day. most probably think the city paid a professional artist to see the murals they see standing one corner of the property. very few would guess it was really the guy in the corner office. >> yeah. i do get that a lot when people come out to tour the place. i say i painted those. no, you had an artist. no, it's mean. >> while water has been darren's profession for many years, art has been his hobby even longer. >> you know, it's a nice outlet to relax. >> reporter: along the way, darren's done a few other high-profile jobs, but none has been as rewarding as the murals at his work place until his latest work. >> i mean, when else do you get a chance to make a difference to somebody's who sick? >> at age 17, darren's son joe was diagnosed with leukemia. kaiser permanente would become the home away from home. it was something they were begin the very first night that stuck with darren. a care package of snac
