he shared his insights with gary lane, but first gary brings us this update on the situation in egypt>> reporter: supporters of mohammed morsi refuse to give up. they want the muslim brotherhood leader reinstated to the egyptian presidency. >> i'm saying to major-general sissi, you betrayed us and carried out the coup, but god will punish you if you are not implementing his rules. >> reporter: even larger numbers of anti-muslim brotherhood members held rallies. >> i'm proving it is a revolution, and stability is doing what we ought to do. >> reporter: newly ap pointed president ali mansour says all egyptians must work together. >> we will thoroughly punish those who kill innocents. >> reporter: many wonder if reliable factions are headed for a showdown. author raymond ibrahim had this warning. >> i fo foresee a civil war. >> reporter: ibrahim says christians will be targeted and attacked and their very existence threatened. raymond ibrahim joins us. last time you were here in april, you predicted civil war. do you still think that is going to happen in egypt? >> i do. groups like the

gary lane brings us this look at some recent incidents. >> reporter: the allure of beautiful beachesnd tranquil ocean waters draw 100,000 tourists to the i'll of zanzabar each year. but this east african island, influenced by islamist extremism has a troubling past. several hundred years ago, when arab traders first came to this island, they were quick to enslave the local population. fast forward to 2013, there are no longer slaves here, but today christians are suffering. churches have been attacked, and christian leaders threatened. last february, a catholic priest was killed outside this church. >> i heard a crowd of people chanting "allah." they destroyed the church. >> reporter: in may 2012, this bishop helped church members his saturday evening prayer meeting as an angry mob approached. he remained behind in a church office. >> they were saying that he used to come here, and look after him. they said we don't want christianity in zanzabar. >> reporter: the muslim extremists never found bishop dixon, but they destroyed his car and set fire to chairs and church equipment inside

gary lane has more. >> reporter: this time it is the funeral of a beloved coptic priest july 6th as he drove his car after an afternoon of shopping in northern sinai town. father's murder is no surprise to the christians. christians have struggled for years not only to protect their churches, homes and businesses, but also their daughters. >> reporter: one of the challenges facing christian families particularly in upper egypt is the kidnapping of young christian girls. it happens when they enter their early teen years. some relocate to christian villages. >> manil wanted to protect herself from forced conversion. she noticed muslim girl and boys attempting to lure mariam away from family and faith. >> the girls said come with us, you will give you money. you are having a hard life. young boys sending young girls to do this. i feared they would kidnap her and demand a lot of money or return her and not be in the same way. >> her husband has difficulty finding work. >> i am much happier, it is safe for my daughters. the working opportunities for my husband are little. >> reporter: maria

i'm gary lane. george thomas and wendy griffith are on vacation.begin their holy month of ramadan this week. it is an intense time of prayer and fasting. it lasts about 30 days. observers abstain from food, drink, and other pleasures, from sunrise to sunset, with the goal of purifying the body and focusing the mind on spiritual pursuits. observing ramadan is one of the five pillars of islam. it is also a time when christians pray for the islamic world, asking god to reveal to them the truth about jesus christ. joining us now is tom doyle, the middle east director for e-3 partners ministry, and author of the book "dreams and visions, is jesus awakening the muslim world?" tom, it is great to have you back. there is war in syria, and major powers like the u.s. and russia and europe are trying to manage that outcome, and some would say it is naive, even a fantasy to think that prayer can make a difference in the world events, but what do you say? >> there is the physical war we're seeing on the ground, but the bigger war is the spiritual war raging ove

cbn's gary lane asked him about the future of the christian community in egypt, and its role in thisecent revolution. >> the christians have been very visible in the anti-morsi process so far, and this high visibility has angered a lot of islamists, whether from the brotherhood or other islamist movements. in a sense, the coptic pope's participation in the military's leader with figures from the egyptian society will neither be forgotten, nor will it be forgiven. we've seen a number of attacks. you mentioned the private killed in the north of sinai, and there are a number of attacks on churches in the south of egypt. and christians are feeling this hatred going against them. it is part of the brotherhood's mobilization, that they are targeting christians, that they are renouncing them as behind this. if the brotherhood is able to portray what happened as a christian-dominated or christian-driven protest, they get to gain massive support in the streets. so the language, and the denunciation of christians and attacks on christians are likely to continue for quite sometime in the future
