our gary tuchman is in joplin this afternoon. he joins me now by phone.mosque has been hit. what are you finding out? >> reporter: well, i can tell you a day and a half after this mosque burned to the ground it was so hot it's still smoldering. we still see some flames. but the people in the muslim community here in joplin, missouri, are devastated. all these people in joplin 15 months ago survived this horrible, horrible outbreak of tornadoes. 158 people killed, 1,000 hurt. these were the survivors. now you look at this rubble and it reminds me of being here last year seeing the tornado rubble. but it's a person we think that started this fire. they don't have the proof, but as you were saying last year on july 4th there was surveillance video and you see the man's face who clearly tried to burn down the mosque. he tossed a lighted bottle on top of the roof. they haven't found this man yet. the suspicion is arson. and the community here is without their one and only mosque. >> have police said whether or not they believe the same person is responsible in

gary tuchman is live in port-au-prince. even though it may not be a hurricane as it hits, how prepared are people there? >> reporter: there are still roughly 400,000 homeless people in haiti from the 2010 earthquake. there are ten million people that live in the country. so 4% of the entire population is living in tents. that is 4% of the united states. that is the equivalent of 12 million people in the united states living in tents. to give you an idea how big a problem it is for people that don't have tvs, internet and roofs over their head. there are preparations here. i was watching local tv coverage here a short time ago about tropical storm isaac. people who have tvs and roofs are going into shelters. there are shelters in churches and police stations. the people who live in the tents, they don't have tvs or internet. they're not getting the word. we were informing people yesterday about the approach of isaac. even they we tell them they're coming, they have no intention of leaving their home. this is all they have is
