cnn's gary tuchman is joining us now from the devastated pacific palisades neighborhood. ary, you're in an area where hundreds of people, unfortunately, sadly, had to abandon their cars while simply trying to evacuate. >> that's right. wolf. erin burnett was just talking about panic. this street personified the panic. >> you can look at these incinerated automobiles. >> the most important thing to tell you, there were no people in the automobiles. what happened the night that the fire came down to this street from the nearby hillside is that people were stuck in traffic trying to evacuate. >> they ended up coming out of their cars because the traffic wasn't moving and running or walking away as fast as they could. the fire came down and burned the cars beyond recognition. the only way we know what kind of car this is. for example, you can see under where the tire was. it says porsche. there are dozens of cars here that have been incinerated. what's notable is across the street, there are also cars that were evacuated. we'll let this person go through. you can go through if

cnn's gary tuchman has been riding around surveying fire damage across one of the hardest hit areas that, of course, the pacific palisades. gary, tell us a little bit more about this west sunset location that you're joining us from. >> right, casey? we're in an area where we're about to show you. looks like it was a set for a scary movie. it's symbolic of the terror that so many people went through tuesday when these fires broke out. >> take a look at these incinerated vehicles. >> i'll start by telling you nobody that we know of was killed in these vehicles. >> but these vehicles were being driven down this street to pacific palisades to get away from the fire on tuesday night. >> what happened was, according to fire officials who i just talked to, there was a traffic jam on the street. and people ultimately ended up evacuating these vehicles and running away. later, fire came down this hillside, and that's why the vehicles are incinerated. i can't even tell if cars these were other people watching right now may be able to know, but there's no indication of what they were. that's how ho
