so gasbuddy is projecting that next year will be the third straight year of falling gas prices.they're calling for an annual average of $3.22 a gallon. that would be an 11 cent drop from this year. it would also be the lowest annual average since 2021. of course, it's also true that gas prices are still higher than they were before covid 19. of course, it's also true that people are making more money than they were before covid, right? and gas is swallowing up a smaller and smaller amount of paychecks, which is obviously good news. now this is a forecast is is a far cry from what we saw in 2022 when gas prices skyrocketed above $5 a gallon for the first time ever. that was a nightmare. thankfully, oil prices have come down dramatically since that russian invasion of ukraine, in part because the u.s. is producing more oil than any country in world history. so we have strong supply. we've also got relatively weak demand, especially out of china. and so that's why gasbuddy is projecting that americans are going to spend about $115 billion less on fuel in 2025 than they did back in

finding the best deal on gas or they're constantly checking their apps, whether it's gasbuddy or waze or something else. comparing prices at neighboring stations, you have a few tips on multiple ways that we can save when it comes to buying gas. walk us through some of those, whether it's loyalty programs or some of these apps. >> absolutely. you're hitting on a few of them. the first one is always check the app before you go because gas prices change throughout the day. so make sure that you're getting the most current information. secondly, make sure that you're enrolling in loyalty points. the the oil brands, the fuel brands, and the retailers themselves often have programs that will give you not only discounts on gas, but also discounts on snacks inside the store. so make sure you're shopping both inside and outside for the best deals. and finally, if you're traveling across state lines, gas prices can sometimes be cheaper on the other side of the border, so make sure you're checking prices along your destination as well. >> oh, always good to check. i know sometimes it's it's les

gasbuddy guy patrick dehaan joins me now.re energy prices headed in 2025, do you think? >> well, ash, i think there's going to be a bit of pressure if on trump to deliver the drill, baby, drill mantra. by the way, u.s. oil production is closing out biden's term at record levels. i do expect trump is going to be a little bit more friendly, but unless he breaks out a magic wand, it may be hard to defy economics. if we see oil prices struggling to hold to $70 a barrel, it's certainly good news for consumers but, again, it may be tough for oil companies to be incentivized to increase production. we're closing out 2024 with some of the lowest gas prices we've seen in the last couple of years, so certainly good news for consumers that are hitting the road. ashley: yeah. and where are the cheapest prices right now? are they in the south, you know, oklahoma, the usual suspects, as they say? >> yeah. the usual suspects, ash. you go down into the states that have low taxes and have proximity to large oil refineries. we're talking about

joining me now is patrick de haan, head of petroleum analysis for gasbuddy. hey. so with gas prices this low, i mean, that is a silver lining, but does it actually make a difference in the amount of travel on the roads for the holiday? >> you know, not a whole lot. it's certainly great news for many americans who are traveling, but it doesn't make a huge dent or increase in the amount of americans traveling. of course, a lot of folks have very traditional holiday plans, and regardless of gas prices, they're going to get to grandma's house a few anecdotally, there is a small percentage of americans that may stay closer to home, but still, millions of americans hitting the road and 32 states now where you can find average gas prices below $3. in fact, some areas of the deep south, you'll find average gas prices even below 250 a gallon. >> what were they like? give us some sense of the difference between 2020 and what we are seeing now below 250. sounds good. any time yeah, it certainly does. >> you know, back in 2020, gas prices were almost $0.70 a gallon lower than
