jim jordan still wants the gavel and asked his allies, though, and they will split on whether he canctually muster enough votes to get that gavel and they're divided in how long the ohio republican should keep trying to win it. i want to go straight to manu raju who has been talking to members including one who had the gavel, but was dethroned. that, of course, is kevin mccarthy. what did he tell you, manu? >> he is still very angry at the members who voted him out of the speakership and those eight republicans led by matt gaetz, criticizing gaetz in particular for fund-raising off of everything that went down here and also not saying explicitly about whether he would support the idea of approved voting for a resolution to empower patrick mchenry to oversee legislative business. that idea is now picking up steam. mccarthy suggests that mchenry has the power himself to do just that without the house taking action, but indicating that he still supports jim jordan as speaker even as he took a swipe at his critics. >> think of the challenge of why we're here. every single democrat with t

today jordan hopes to win over enough gop hold-outs to get the gavel. chad pergram joins us from capitol hill. give us a bit of a break from the war zone and take us into that war zone. >> this is a different type of battle on capitol hill for the speakership. jim jordan came in short yesterday. we're told that there are probably a few more republicans who will vote for him today on the second ballot. we also wonder and told might be more attrition. this could be a wash. he can only lose four votes. there are at least four locked in opposing him, jimenez of florida voted for kevin mccarthy and another republican from florida and ken buck from colorado. if he loses more than that we're onto a third ballot. the question on capitol hill is whether or not they would do that. jim jordan has indicated today that he wants to continue to forge ahead and try to get the votes. some of those tactics have backfired to some degree with some of these members believing that some of jordan's allies have been a little too strong arm sending messages to the wives of memb
