joining me now is gavin mccomber from first orion. gavin, thank you for being here today. we'll talk about the technology in a moment. but give me a sense of how much worse the problem has gotten with these spam calls on our cell phones and why is it so bad? >> sure, thank you for having us. so we provide call protection services to make u.s. carriers, businesses, and tens of millions of mobile subscribers. and over the past 18 months, we have analyzed about 50 billion, with a b, calls and we have seen since early 2017, um, the number of scam calls grow from 3% to about 30% this year and we believe it's going to be about 50% next year just staggering growth. >> why is it so difficult to limit these calls? >> well, scammers are very sophisticated. they are using techniques that -- like neighborhood spoofing where they call from a number that looks just like yours, probably the same area code, same prefix, and consumers are more likely to answer it. >> yeah. no, i was just going to say, i get those calls quite a bit where the number looks sort of, you know, similar to my pho
