if we turn to the next page, gavin newsom and hydra mendoza had a program to open up our schoolyards. and when we came in office in 20 2011, i think six or 10 schoolyards are opened up and a need for impetus behind that. this is a partnership between my office and lee's office and hydra in particular and rec & park, and dpw that cleans all the playgrounds and our rec & park department and 3-1-1. the goal is to open up san francisco park on the weekends. for me and what is involved in this project is to allow our children places to play and build community in our neighborhoods. it's gone well so far and we have a lot of work. our mission as we have laid it out is to create more safe places for our children and families to gather throughout san francisco. this will coordinate through all districts. and the san francisco unified district and pta's and sponsors and ngo's and ceo. we envision a safe place for every children to play in this district. and let me thank a number of pta's involved in many schools. and i have been out speaking and hydra and phil, and to have buy-in is viable in

california lieutenant governor gavin newsom is hitting the road to promote his new book citizenville. we caught up with his -- in citizenville he talks about dramatically reimagining government which he says is stuck in the past. he argues technology is the key to transforming government and sparking citizen engagement. >> small is getting big. big is getting small. armies of davids i call it in the book not with slingshots as we know it. but the slingshot here is technology that will tear down the walls of this model. again it's no longer relevant the world we are living in. >> as he travels the nation on his book tour willie brown says newsom is testing unwanted waters. >>> parking lot boards is considering a series of fair increases that will start this year. transit agencies need to hike prices to keep the agency on track so it's proposing fare hikes every two years. the amount of the increase would be tied to inflation. the proposed 5.2%. >> the economy is bad right now. people don't have that kind of money. i don't have that kind of money. >> commuters going between daly city wo

back in 2009 then mayor gavin newsome to the light of all of us had introduced that we ought to really some guidelines to open up our city's data. and in the year later, the board, less legislation, the first open data legislation in san francisco that made us cutting edge throughout the country, the first to come out and say to everybody in the public, to people who wanted to create businesses, wanted to look at the city with kind of an open invitation to involve themselves with what the city had. and part of that really neat understanding was that we were holding onto so much of our own data in our own silos with our own very focused obligations that we had, and not realizing that if we had released that data to the public, we could really allow them to help us create even more efficient government, along with some very good entrepreneurial efforts that are reflected in today's announcements and some of our partners that are here today. so, three years later, after announcing this and after doing the first generation of open data legislation, open sf is still a very vigorous, and we
