good employees, good drink makers. >> reporter: gaylord's actually didn't start as a coffee shop.t began as an ice cream shop and employees say last night a couple of guys ordered ice cream a ate it outside and went back in looking for laptops. >> someone tried to rob people in gaylord's coffee shop. >> i went to go into our back room to do something, and heard a scuffle, heard something like a chair or table fall over. >> reporter: she came back around to see the suspects ripping away customer laptops and as the thieves tried to get away. >> i think there was only one shot. >> reporter: there was gunfire just outside the front door. >> i don't know how many of our customers tried to stop them. when they did one of them fired and hit a woman in the leg. >> reporter: she was transported to the hospital in stable condition. at the scene a laptop was visible in the street along with various evidence markers but police say the four suspects no description were nowhere to be found. >> i have lived in the bay area for 14 years. and i have never been this close to anything like this ever

we have details on last night's shooting at gaylord's cafe. >> it happened here at gaylord's cafe. three robberies entered the shot to steal laptops and that's when customers chased the men out and one tackled one of the thieves and he pulled out the gun and the gun went off and shot a woman in the leg. >> she is not extremely injured, there was a fair amount of blood but her daughter was crying. >> pam mane was working at the time of the robbery and she helped the that's -- thieves at the counter before they made their move. >> one guy bought ice cream and two others did the same thing and hanging around outside and they were scouting out the place and after that, they like grabbed laptops and i pads and as that was happening a cop car was pulling up right there and they got away for a second. two boys ran down the block and one jumped in a fan and they went off. >> the cafe shooting happened before 11:00 friday night and while the sound of gunfire is uncommon along normally quiet piedmont avenue, she says laptop robberies are not. >> it is a problem that we do get a lot of laptop
