jack gehres has set up a lean-too. they put a wounded in the bottom and into the lean-to, he put the most terribly wounded men so nobody would have to look at them and they would get a false sense of soouk -- of soouk with the roof over their head. he was taking care of them and they took a direct hit by a shell and killed everybody and gehres and he was saying his prayers and good buy byes because he knew it was over. he felt a scratching at the back of his head and side of his face. somewhere during the previous year he found a little terrier dog he had adopted and brought him into the pocket. his name was billy. billy was digging him out. billy dug him out and they gathered each other up and looked and they saw that everybody else was dead and they went down to the bottom of the hillside to lend what secure they could for the wounded down there. the other two medics that survived was private irving sirotta. he was a russian jew and they called him the barren because he had a aristocratic thing in the world. and jimm
