studies of the partisan polarization have been largely divorced from the gender and politics this is surprising given the gap among the women in congress. my book sheds light on this disparity by examining variations across women in the decision to run for and rename in congressional office. the results i presented earlier demonstrated ideologically moderate male and female state legislators are less likely to run for congress than those at the extreme. by further unpacking the category we can see some women are significantly less likely to run for office than others and for example a conservative republican state legislator that resembles marsha blackburn from tennessee is more likely to run for congress than a moderate state legislator that resembles olympia snowe. i suggest the same matter most for republican women. first there were conservative ae women in the pipeline. second republican women in congress or to the ideological left of much of the centricity exit cut the groundout from the women in office at that time. i'm going to talk about each of these in turn. with respect to
