i have a high respect for general odierno along with general milly at ft. hood.wing concealed carry weapons on the post would not be the best interest of the soldiers or security. >> what changes have taken place, if any significant changes, on the base at ft. hood over the past five years since the mass murder committed by major nadal hasan? >> i'm sure there are many. i know of a few. even though it is the policy of the army to have a relationship with the surrounding community, it's good for the soldier, it's good for the community, so we do try to have open access available to the community people. and so -- but they still do have -- you have to have a reason for going on the post. you have to ask permission under certain circumstances. and at the gate they ask your reason for visiting the post. and if you say in your meeting with someone they call that person, i experienced it all the time, if you're a regular traveler in and out, you can get a special sticker. those people are checked out. >> as you know, congressman, when u.s. troops were deployed to iraq

many, many are suffering, and i think as general millie said the other day, first and foremost we need to reach out to those families and make sure that they are supported. secondly, with respect to your question, i think we need to certainly take a look at securing our bases for our people. right now, in our 13th year of war, it's a time of great stress for our military. we've been through a lot. and as we come out of these wars and cop back home, i think just what i've seen in this particular example indicates the mix of characteristics and issues that are associated with that stress. to include anxiety and depression, possible post traumatic stress, mild tbi, dealing with financial and personal problems, i think our force because it's been away so much, has not had to deal with those as directly as they may have in the past. and now that we're going to be home more, i think we're going to see actually an increased number of challenges associated with that. we all need to wrap our arms around the force to help them deal with those. >> i'll follow up on that but i want to stick to the

i spoke with general mark millie who confirmed investigators are looking in to this as a possible trigger for the events. friends have already told us that lopez was angry with the army because he wasn't given enough time off to attend to the death of his mother who died in puerto rico last november. and the army confirms lopez was being treated for depression and anxiety and sleep disorders, that he was on medication and saw a psychiatrist. and he had posted a series of rather cryptic messages on his facebook page including one last march 1 that said i think this time the devil will take me. and obviously investigators are looking much more closely at his social media accounts. >> you yyo rick, do we know anyg more about those who were killed? >> well, one of the tragic things here is that all three of the soldiers who were killed on the base wednesday had all served time in war zones and survived those war zones to come home to this. one of them, sergeant danny ferguson, 39, a four sport athlete in high school, he'd just returned from afghanistan. his fiance says he blocked the door to

now according to general mark millie, four of those were released today, leaving three casualties still being cared for. beyond that, we know next to nothing about them. now of the nine that were being looked after, the hospital gnaw says within the past hour, in fact that six of them were damaged today, so that's good news. doctor matthew davis, speaks earlier today says those who now to the limbs and to the face, all caused he said by gunfire. now, the three in serious condition who remain at scotland wide, according to dr. davis, include a neck injury, a spine injury, that may lead to possible paralysis, and an abdominal injury. now according to the hospital, many of the victims have had their families at their beside overnight last night. and despite everything spirits were said to be high. the hospital also says that at the request of the u.s. military, it won't be offering media interviews with patients or family members for the time being. john we are getting word about one of those kills. >> yes, we are, they tend not to say very much about the people who are involved, but of co
