those people, the general public sympathize with the tea party but are not quite as active. who are tea party women nationally speaking? i will rely on data from the 2012 american value survey and found that 9% of american women consider themselves part of the tea party. american women in 2012 identify as republicans but not affiliated with the tea party, 72% of other women, independents and democrat, clearly tea party women are a small part of the population. tea party women are overwhelmingly white, most likely to identify as republicans despite reservations about gop, 3% just to report this, the democrats, i have to report it. in terms of economic status, women i would describe as comfortably middle-class slightly less likely to be educated, plurality of tea party women, work part-time or full-time and more religious than other american women and tend to be socially conservative and theologically conservative. i found two third of tea party women identify as born-again christians. politically speaking you won't be surprised to find they are most likely to identify as cons

in fact, two-thirds of tea party women in the general public are born-again christians.so for these women, they would never become a libertarian, because libertarians support abortion rights, gay marriage, they want freedom for everybody. so they want a minimal regulatory state in private life as well as in economic concern. so that just would not jive, i think, with a lot of these activists that i interviewed. so there are definitely libertarians in the movement who are women. in fact, a lot of them that i interviewed would sort of eschew the whole gender identity politics. they don't like to go down that road, but it doesn't stop many of them from still making some arguments why their policies are better for women ultimately. but i think, you know, i know that robbie and dan, they did a study in 2013, i think, called in search of libertarians. i think only 8% -- i still remember this fact -- 8% of americans are truly libertarian in terms of rejecting government regulation in all areas of life. it's just not a very popular position for most people in this country. >> if
