cnbc's geoff cutmore joins us live from london. geoff, wall street is really sitting pretty right now. we've got the dow above 17,000, and historically, the s&p sitting above 2,000. so, the question is, how can stocks keep climbing? i mean, this bubble has to pop. >> reporter: yeah, it's an interesting question, isn't it? it's one that the street is fighting out, and there are advocates on both sides here. but i think the issue you've got to be wary about is volume. we're seeing very low volume activity in the stock markets at the moment, and we've really got to wait until labor day until a lot of the big fish come back from their vacations to find out how much conviction there is to push share prices higher. and there's one other thing to throw into the mix here. september is seasonally quite a weak month for markets. so, yes, we've had this big push forward. we've gone through the finishing tape, if you like, on 2,000, but will the market then sit back and take a breather while we rebuild conviction, or will we push higher here?

let's geoff you a look at what markets are doing on this last trading day of the week and of the month looking at futures, we're expecting a slightly higher start to the trading day, even taking fair value into account. this is after we saw the s&p 500 pulling back just a little bit in yesterday's session. you about it was below the 2000 level on ukraine, the s&p down by 0.2%. the dow off by 0.3%. but once again, this is happening on very, very thin volumes. now as we move into september, the labor day holiday, the volumes should be coming back into the market and give the markets a little bit more direction at the conviction. that is the major averages, though, set for the second best month of the year. so it really hasn't been that bad of a month. let's have a look at the european markets after we got the cpi number that was in line with expectations for the eurozone. the xetra dax up by 0.3%. but we saw those levels even before the cpi number was out. the cac 40 up by 0.2%. maybe a bit of a bounceback for a decline. for the week, we're looking pretty good in terms of the major avera
