joining me now nbc news white house correspondent geoff bennett.om the biden white house? >> not yet. we were told before today that after the trial wrapped up that the president would release a paper statement. so far that paper statement has not come. but you're right. both president biden and the white house have been very disciplined in terms of staying in their lane saying nothing about this question of impeachment other than the fact president biden saying that the trial needed to happen. you know, all day i've been hearing about how a long trial could really imperil biden's agenda. and so as not to handicap that, to put that in very specific terms, here is how the rest of this sort of month will go. this coming week is presidents' day. the senate is on recess. but the week after that both the house and the senate have to move that nearly $2 trillion covid relief package by way of reconciliation. it is a very complicated process which means they'll do it with just democratic votes alone. that bill has to move that week in order to -- so that

nbc's geoff bennett has been digging into all of this and we also have dr. s cdc guidance and how do we get our kids back to school full-time? >> yeah, and that's the number one question, steph. i'm told these guidelines cover a host of issues and they are focused primarily on virus mitigation. so that means calling for more comprehensive testing, social distancing, mask wearing, proper hygiene, even proper ventilation. i'm also told that these guidelines will include phased reopening instructions for schools given the caseload of the area in which the schools are located. one thing not in these guidelines, and you mentioned this, teacher vaccinations will not be included as a prerequisite for a return to in-person instruction and there are a couple of reasons for that. one, you've got millions of teachers who have been in school classrooms and have been for months, two, there's already a huge demand on the system and three, there are some thorny legal issues involved with employers, namely school districts, mandating that these teachers get this vaccine befo
