robert kennedy is killed and gerald ford was shot, attempted assassination in california, 18 days apart and thank god the gun misfire because she was 16 away from him. we all remember, you know, george corley wallace not to mis-a in suburban maryland getting shot at times when he ran for president of the democratic primary in 1972 and came within 1.8% and a popular vote of the guy who won the nomination george mcgovern. two months after he got inaugurated ronald reagan being shot in this town outside the washington hilton. and not just of violence and that our political leaders but in 18 months in 1972 and 73 there were 2500 domestic bombings in the united states by radicals on the left aiming to disrupt the war. what happened is required the country to try and find a way to come together and treat people with respect, mutual respect on both sides of the aisle, and it wasn't easy, easy -- wasn't easy to do and took some time but we do it because we are not tolerant of this. given a choice the american people would rather have a system in which we disagree with each other nonviolently in one which we shoot at each other. >> so i just want to say one thing. i cannot speak for myself b
