mark: george gilder, life after google. so you feel that we're on the precipice of leapfrogging these platforms, these technologies like google and facebook and twitter and so forth. you use this word cryptocosm. you can explain? >> the internet needs a new security architecture. anybody who goes on the internet knows it. the constant demand for new user names, passwords, p.i.n.s, mother's maiden names, all the apparatus of security defeats itself on the internet today, and an -- mark: what is the purpose of all that? >> it's supposedly to stop fraud and to create a basis for transactions on the internet. the internet wasn't designed for transactions. it was designed for e-mail and hypertexting and communication. with communications first protocol. and today, since it's becoming a commercial engine, the internet, it needs a security first protocol, and today, you have to virtually strip naked before the camera in order to conduct a transaction on the internet. you have to know yourself user names and passwords for all the h

. >> george gilder, every once a year we talk about your latest book, you write a book a year. >> i have written a total of about 20 and spent a lot of time as a venture capitalist investing in companies and learning the perils of enterprise. this is essentially my 20th book depending on how you count new additions and new versions. i rewrite my books a lot. >> host: are you still a venture capitalist? >> guest: i am still a venture capitalist but the whole realm is frozen today. the number of public companies on the stock market has declined 50%, 50% over the last couple decades. >> host: why is that? wikipedia there are no public offerings. the administrative state as they call it has made it so complex to be a public company that small companies can't really do it. instead they try to be absorbed by the fans at facebook, amazon, google, apple. >> host: netflix. >> guest: they all are queued. these unicorns, private companies that in the past would have gone public routinely, now all queued in the m&a offices of the third companies. we have a steady shrinkage of the stock market. only
