graph. it's been at least a decade since we had broken through the 50%. it happened under george w. bush.ooks like it was pretty much after 9/11. and then it went way down and went up after the election of barack obama. and up and down and now down again. kirsten, what's it going to take to put us in the right direction according to americans' minds? >> i think part of it is obviously if the economy turns around and people feel more confidence. that helps. but it doesn't change the fact that people fundamentally don't trust a lot of the major institutions in this country. in this poll, the only one they seem to trust completely is the military. other than that, you see a lot of distrust, whether it's church leaders, political parties, whether it's wall street. i think the only way that that's going to change is if the people who run these institutions change their behavior. >> speaking of confidence in political parties, i want to show this last poll because it was very enlightening. confidence in the federal government, democrats say quite a bit of confidence. 25%. republicans, only 9%.
