i live in greenwich village hav lived there for the past four 1 years plus. this is what i found this morning. this is that georgeington, , it is the art in washington square park. its where the beat in the generation first got its boom. overnight last night, the two statues of george washington were doused in red paint. one that shows washington as a general, the other as a statesman and a politician and president. when you see this, and you wake up to it every day, you wonder what the people who call new york city home our thinking about how safe they feel. new york's growth in the past 20 -25 years is really a credit to to things. it's the world's greatest city or has been, and the crime rate that was there in the mid- 1990 s really provided this team and the jet fuel that provided the growth for new york . the neighborhoods got better, families started to move back and raise their kids in new yor city. the schools got better. as a result, life got better. my question today would be do the people of new york still feel safe living in this city when they see things like this every morning of their lives. >> i m
