george lettis has more from police headquarters. good morning. >> the leak killed two people in a home in sykesville. the call came in just before 9:00 a.m. two bodies were found inside this home of pikesville. eight other people in the hall including three children became a very sick. they bore rushed to hospital along with three police officers. -- they were rushed to hospital. police think it could be connected to a gas furnace. >> it is sad that sometimes it takes this kind of thing to understand that it is not costly to buy a carbon monoxide detector. they do save lives. >> if you develop dizziness or unconsciousness, get out of the house as quickly as possible and contact us. >> officials did not find a co detector in the home. the names of those victims were not released. george lettis, wbal-tv 11 news. >> both spans of route 50 are now open. fire crews responded to the westbound lanes near the 97 split. a tanker truck was leaking a chemical that reacted with water. officials say the driver was taken to shock trauma. the truc

george lettis is live downtown to explain. good morning. >> more than a week after the fire ripped through several buildings, the atf is not providing some answers as to the cause of the fire. tests on the debris indicate the fire was set by someone. agents say that does not meet somebody intentionally set the fire. there is some kind of human involvement. either way, those who work on the block or owned businesses what some closure on this soon. >> it could be anything from a homeless person moving up there or somebody getting up where it was closed off. if it was arson, i hope they punish them to the full extent because there is dozens if not 50 families right now because of the fire who have nothing around the holidays. >> investigators estimate the damage will top $3 million. investigators are passing out fliers open some but it will come forward with some information. there is a 05 thousand dollar reward for anyone who is information that helps solve this case -- there is a $5,000 reward. >> a homeless man is recovering a

we're live in east baltimore, george lettis, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. maryland school officials now have some extra time to develop a new teacher evaluation system. the state was in jeopardy of losing millions of dollars over concerns of how it would grade teachers. tim tooten has an update. >> it was turning into a numbers game. how much of a student's progress should be counted towards a teacher's evaluation. state lawmakers said 35%. a new council for educator effectiveness is trying to find middle ground. >> that number is frightening to a lot of teachers. it is frightening not because they do not want student growth measured. it's frightening because they are not sure how much control they have over the test scores. >> that is what the council and members of the board of education asked the government to give them more time to report their progress on the new teacher evaluation system. >> i think an additional six months will give people a chance to focus on what the real issues are and not be distracted so much by the fear and the incorrect facts

it is too scary for me. >> george lettis, wbal-tv 11 news. >> several people behind bars this morning accused of ramming a stolen car into two baltimore county police cruisers. police say they first noticed the person driving eratcally. they then followed the suspect to overly high school where the zept allegedly happened. sky team 11 was over the scene around 1:30 in the afternoon. three suspects were arrested, and no one was injuried. >> in anne arundel county an s.u.v. lost control and slammed into a liquor store. this happened before 6:00 on the 900 block of mountain road in pasadena. officials don't think the crash caused structural damage to the building and no one was hurt. >> if you use d.c.'s metro system, listen up. officials will begin a random bag search. they -- will provide random swabs. bags will not be opened unless there is a positive signal from the chemicals or the canine units. similar procedures are in place in new york and boston. taborn says it is another security measure. >> if it is going to help make things secure, i would say ok. >> i would have idea about m
