ago, rankingars member george miller and the education workforce, the ranking member on the judiciaryttee, asked to study segregation in schools. a lot of reports and researchers were claiming the level of segregation was unacceptably high and growing. that is what they found. a significant number of jurisdictions have excessive racial activation. it overlaps with class. not only racial, but low income. when you combine the two, educating people and low income, racially isolated situations, the study shows the results are not as good as when you have racially integrated schools. schools, the services aren't as good and you have less access to more rigorous academic courses. the libraries, the facilities, are not as good. the same problems we had in 1954 are coming back. the disturbing thing is that the resegregation was not only higher than acceptable, but growing. in the last 15 years it has grown significantly. that is a disturbing thing. we have asked the department of education to be more rigorous. we introduced legislation, a private right of action, for schools to be segregated
