for much more on this, let's bring in our chief anchor, george stephanopoulos. he'll be hosting "this week" later this morning. good morning. >> good morning, guys. >> so david wright was just saying there's no mystery about what will happen on wednesday in the house, and then we go to the senate where the conventional wisdom is that the president will be acquitted. are the outcomes -- i have checked in with you on this throughout the process. i'm going to ask you this again. are the outcomes really preordained in the house and the senate here? >> seems like it right now. i think the democrats say they're not whipping. they're not counting the votes, but they're pretty confident that even though they may lose a handful of democrats in the vote this week in the house, they will pass the impeachment articles, the two articles of impeachment. in the senate, it's pretty clear. you don't have 67 votes. it's almost certain you don't have 67 votes to convict. what is less clear is whether the republican majority will hold together on all the procedural votes on the len

so we brought in a big brain, george stephanopoulos, our chief anchor. good morning. >> see if i can live up to that. >> let's see. let's see. so let's just pick up on what rachel just said there. a huge percentage as you know of the democratic party is made up of people of color and yet we're looking at a coming debate with perhaps no candidates of color. how big of an issue is that in your mind? >> well, people have noted it but i'm not sure that's the fault of the dnc or that race has anything to do with the fact that those candidates didn't make the stage. i mean, kamala harris started out strong and raised a ton of money. she had 20,000 people at her first rally. she qualified for this debate. she could have been on that stage this week, and yet she decided to drop out because she doesn't see a viable path going forward. there were very low barriers to entry in this race this time around. at one point we had 25 candidates, 13 of them -- more than 25 candidates, and 13 have dropped out right now but it's one of the questions that i'll bring to cory b

and this is going to put each one in a high action and this is different because it's george stephanopoulos. so they didn't do. it king as i just did an interview. we did. i thought it was going to hit i think i thought it. pretty good that's pretty good thing it was very convincing to me i have to say i had a lump in my throat at certain points in the film that we would well give away but only the iranian husband he's an intelligent guy he's a lovely guy loves his wife he loves his child. and later in the very scene actually he says he says he's seen the violence he's seen the subjugation of women which is something that comes out in the film even though even though he lived in europe for 16 years he kind of excepts it why i think there is a way of looking at this where you know a ruler evolution is very rare once in a lifetime experience right so sometimes when something like this happens where you can reorganize and refashion a whole society in another image away from what you've hated before you see the other the great opportunity and you start projecting things into it you want to thin

this is george stephanopoulos. we know the president will be in michigan tonight. you have pretty keen political the antenna. you were one of the few democrats warning the hillary clinton campaign back in 2016 that michigan could go to president trump. what's happening on the ground there right now in michigan with the president, and particularly on this issue of impeachment? >> it's very torn. i will tell you that first of all, people are more engaged than i have ever seen them. you know, just this weekend being home, i went to the doctor for an asthma checkup and 25 people stopped me while i was at the university of michigan on all sides. the last person i saw, said i shouldn't be bothering you. you're at the doctor, but i have to tell you this. we shouldn't be impeaching. she was nice. i had people yell at me on one side. i had people yell at me, and i think the polling is accurate. i think michigan is a very divided state and there are people on both sides. i'm going to tell you, i think donald trump could win again depending upon who the democratic candidate i

so when george stephanopoulos asked stephanie grisham, why did the president make that remark, she left essentially to what most of the spokespeople around the president would. you'd have to ask the president that, though, of course, she's the one speaking for the president. she should be the one to answer that. that's something you see time and time again where those around the president do not want to defend moments like that. some of those moments they view as his worst moments when he makes comments like that. i don't think it's entirely surprising to see she's not considering it. as far as the crowd being supportive, when you look at the clip and see the president head on, you do see some cheers behind him when the president makes that remark. maybe he's looking up. but if you look at other camera shots going around the audience of that rally in michigan last night, there were also some groans and some grimaces as well which is not something you typically see at the president's rally in this big arena that's filled with his supporters. but saying that comment in michigan where, obv
