today the hennepin county medical examiner who conducted the autopsy on george floyd is set to testify. joining me is benjamin crump, one of the attorneys for the floyd family. good to see you this morning. i know you described that testimony that you heard from dr. tobin yesterday as some of the strongest testimony that you have heard yet. we are expecting to hear from the medical examiner today and we know, based on that autopsy report, that his findings will not line up exactly with what we heard from dr. tobin and other experts yesterday. are you concerned about his testimony today? >> i am not, erica, because i believe the video tells us what is the most relevant reason why george floyd is dead. and i think that dr. tobin very specific medical testimony corroborates the police chief and the other police officers in the minneapolis police department that testified that this was absolutely unnecessary. derek chauvin having his knee on george floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. and dr. tobin corroborated what we all saw with our own eyes. and so i believe the medical examiner's testimony is going to

the senate is facing renewed pressure to take up what you just heard benjamin crump ask, the george floydng act. we've heard key lawmakers on both sides talking about the bill. >> democrats say they want to pass by the anniversary of george floyd's murder, that's next month. manu, there are two schools of thought here, that this conviction either sparks action or further delays it, in other words, that there's a sort of sense that, well, it's been satisfied, we don't have to do this right now. where do these discussions stand? >> only the informal stages at the moment. there have been those informal talks that have been happening for some time, that democrats already pushed through the same bill they passed last year that did not pass the senate. the republicans in their senate have their own alternative that the democrats blocked last summer as well. the goal on the senate side is to try to reconcile those two versions. there have been discussions on an informal basis happening with key players on the republican side, tim scott of south carolina, cory booker, the democrat from new jersey
