[applause] thank you very much for that generous introduction. i apologize for the kaine although i am told -- i apologize for the cane. the consequence of a prolonged recovery from foot surgery. in about a hour you can decide whether it was to remove my foot from my mouth. ,t is a delight to be here practically so because in west michigan, it was about six degrees and snowing but even more because of the encouragement one draws from the fact there are so many people in this country whose intellectual curiosity is not automatically gratified by staring at a screen but who are willing to come out and collectively share their curiosity and their interest in this case, in the founding and the legacy of the founders. it is a big subject. i was tempted to call this talk -- four virginians and a yankee because it is those five founders, founders of the country and the presidency, who i would like to deal with this morning. is not adent prometheus chained to the rock. he is a magnific
