geri inspired. and on the night of july 19, 1984, in san francisco, in the musconi center, geri gave her acceptance speech. she became the first woman to be nominated for vice president for a major party. what a night. i was there. the thrill, the excitement in the room, the turbo energy that was there. 10,000 people joined the -- jammed the musconi center. guy delegates gave their tickets away to either alter nationals, to their daughters, to people who helped out. she wanted to be there. people brought their children. they carried them. they put them on their shell doers to see -- on their shoulders to see what was go to occur. when geraldine ferraro walked on that stage, she electrified all of us. the convention gave her a 10-minute standing and resounding ovation. we just couldn't sit down because we knew a barrier had been broken and for the rest the as she made history, there would be more on the way. during that campaign, it was hard-fought. she traveled over 55,000 miles, visited 85 cities,

and geri crowley. at every meeting, i see her. i do not know whether -- where she finds the energy. i hope i can grow up to be just like you. . >> i am gery edelstein. i am a research fellow at california at space science lab. i am here with my professional peers to demonstrate the broad diversity of citizens who support electronic dance music events. state-permitted public musical events are a substantial and historic part of our identity as sentences since. it attracts tourists from all over the country, benefiting local businesses, and enhances the desirability of the bay area as a place to live and work. i have personally met with scores of folks at these events who came to town specifically to have fun at these events. the travel a long way. as a recruiter of professionals and post secondary students, i can attest personally to the allure of this diversity in attracting those kind of people to our area. access to civic venues is a positive to the conduct of such events. application and enforcement of sensible submit regulations on capacity, access, sanitation, health, and conduct are an obvious benefit to the community and the city. my peers and i find the infectious excitement and positive behavior at

four years ago, the bureau chief of the wall street journal was gery.our years ago, the newly elected chairman of the oversight committee was investigating allegedly improper e-mail's set by republican staffers. [applause] four years ago, the washington press corps was a self-absorbed, and secure bunch to only cared about hobnobbing with the political elite. that was before emily miller got her press passes. >> for me, personally, a lot has changed. last time i was standing up here i propose to been bradley. he said no. apparently i am not a money- making, for-profit company. mr. bradley, sir, i did not write or approve of that joke. [laughter] despite all this dramatic upheaval, one thing has not changed -- good, old-fashioned, a tenacious reporting is alive and well in the washington.
