gerri willis in the newsroom with this one. gerri. >> you got that right.emember koskinen, the commissioner of the irs, john koskinen hue the smaller budget is really hurting what he is doing. he told congress not too long ago, we estimate the agency will lose through attrition, 1800 key enforcement personnel through 2015 that we will not be able to replace. we anticipate the outcome will be fewer audits, fewer resources focused on collection. we estimate as a result of these cuts, the government will lose at least $2 billion in revenue. melissa, we took a look at this. we dug into the numbers. what we found, there are two major enforcement units in the irs. one the 400 field operations offices all over the country and their automated collections service. yes, they put together less money. they collected less money, $200 million less. but that is nothing like the $2 billion that john koskinen was talking about. in fact, if you look at the monthly reports from treasury, and i know that you do, federal tax revenues are on track for the biggest year ever, $1.2

gerri willis has details on this one. gerri? >> it is amazing. demetria brown is the name of the woman pleading guilty. here is what she did. she filed 350 false tax returns. she earned $326,000 in refunds she wasn't due. now she stole names, social security numbers and dates of birth. we don't know if that came from the irs office in st. louis where she worked but somehow she got her hands on them. she filled out fraudulent tax returns, made up all of the information. did this for four years, from 2008 to 2011. and now, pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud, one count of aggravated i.d. theft. she could be sentenced to 42 years or receive a $750,000 fine. melissa, i got to tell you, this comes as very interesting news in the same week that the irs commissioner told congress that it was super sophisticated russian crooks who were responsible for the most recent identity theft at the irs. melissa: hmmm. yeah, those russian crooks. gerri, thank you so much. david: always easy to point the finger at the other guy. melissa: absolutely. nothing

gerri willis is here. gerri, do we know anything about what was lost? >> david i have to tell you lost is the wrong word. this stuff was destroyed. as you said 422 tapes. that was 24,000 emails between lois lerner and golly her husband, individuals who were seeking tax-exempt status for their conservative organization. the inspector general was only able to recall a thousand of these emails. in the meantime the irs in trouble today too because they only looked at one possible source of these e-mails, not the six available. they looked at the hard drive but there was also blackberries, backup tapes, server drives, backups to the tape server driverses, loaner laptops that nobody even considered. i have to tell you, david, when you look at this, the double-standard at work here astonishing. i want you to hear what representative ron de santis had to say about this whole situation. >> if a taxpayer had been asked about it irs in an audit to produce certain documents to justify their tax returns and they just decided that some of the things they didn't want
