gerri willis is at a dick's store in new jersey with the latest.erri. >> hey, trish, we're in paramus. this is the front line of safety for schoolkids. dick's put out an extensive statement today. they're banning assault-style firearms in 700 or so stores. they did this during sandy hook in 2012 this extend it to additional 35 "field & stream" stores. they're raising the minimum age to purchase firearms to 20 one. keep in mind the federal threshold is 18 for the long guns. they're banning high capacity magazines. as i said the statement was long. i quote it in part. they say, we support and respect the second amendment. we recognize and appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners are responsible, law-abiding citizens but we have to help solve the problem that is in front of us. gun violence is an epidemic they say that is taking the lives of too many people including the brightest hope for the future of america, our kids. now they tweeted out all of the statement and let me tell you, they got incredible numbers of comments on twitter. more than

gerri willis live in the newsroom with more. hi, gerri. >> hi, trish.bscure portion of tax reform we didn't pay attention to taking away deductionses that make inversion less attractive. resulting in $150 billion in tax collections. dozens of u.s.-based companies like mylan, praxair, did inversions in recent year. buying foreign rivals in tax countries to lower their tax rates. now that strategy coming back to bite them in the butt. under tax reform, they will lose key deductions like interest payments from overseas parents and deductions for royalties. in the first-quarter earnings report last week, johnson controls which merged with ireland based tyco last year had this to say. as certain other provision of the new legislation become effective for the company in fiscal 2019. effective tax rate is expected to i were crease from 16% to 18%. they are not the only once. similar impacts ney be felt at burger king that merged with canada-based tim horton in $3.3 billion deal and medtronic tied up with coindividual yaw, in their deal. they don't expect compa

look, gerri, the market is going to like this. they like to know the fed is there, ready, willing, able, always desiring to help lend a hand but you know it does seem as though we're shifting in to a new kind of time for our economy. we need to know that our fed can actually be there should things be not so good. >> you know i like to think of this back to the future, right? we're going back to a paradigm a lot of people on this trading floor don't even remember when there was actually inflation, the economy was growing. this is a new reset for some people out there who have been threw it before. i want to say, look at these markets. the dow up 214 points right now. at about the time your show opened it was up 150. s&p up 23 points here. nasdaq up about 86 points i believe. and so what you're seeing is this big hullabaloo, big excitement over the fact that the fed will be here. i think you're making a great point here but it is not surprising at all the markets would be in favor of this. i have to tell you, this is interesting rea

so why are we up today, gerri? what did it? >> wow, that's all i can say. here is what i believe is going on. we've been watching the 10-year treasury on all week long the yield on it right? it is 2.87. here is what is going on, this week a lot of federal debt issue, possibly one trader, more debt than ever issued before. you have all of that debt. guess what? yields come down. get to monthly and weekly performances for the week. these numbers have been changing. dow up 0.36. s&p up 0.5%. nasdaq up 1.35%. that is for the week. the dow down 3.8%, nasdaq down 1.1%. s&p down 2.7%. the turn in the market. tech has been leading the way my friend. intel up dramatically, up 4.2%. microsoft up 2.3%. apple up 6.3%. that company releasing recharging station in march. calling it the air power. it's a wireless network. another story we've been following today, blue buffalo, natural pet food company. that company sold to general mills today for $8 billion. blue buffalo shares went up 17%. hey, it has been a good news day down here. what can i say. guys, back to you. che
