i'm joined now by congressman gerry connolly. he is a democrat from virginia and a member of the house foreign affairs and oversight committees. congressman, great to see you. >> great to be with you, federico. >> so i do want to get your reaction to what is transpiring and what is not. thus far on this immigration plan from the trump administration, the border czar, you know, saying that he's being realistic. he said that on one of the talk shows today about deporting all migrants who entered the country illegally. but now we're reporting in this breaking news that u.s. military flights that had migrants on board do not have the approval of landing in colombia. and are steve contorno is reporting that the trump administration says they thought they had clearance for these u.s. military planes to land in colombia, only to now learn that the colombian president says no. what are your thoughts about this sequence of events? >> well. >> i'm kind of horrified that this can happen in america, particularly the report you just had on wh

communicator, but she was not elevated because the thinking was on the democratics high that it was gerry connolly'sre's a question for you. if this is such an important election, if mark was is in such a perilous place, why are democrats not elevating the people they know can connect with voters? >> i think that messaging problem has been something that is a old democrats for a long time, but the only parallel to that has been the messenger problem as well. you just hit on that. rick, i want to read to you in part of the msnbc op-ed that is starting to 20th, democrats need to ensure that donald trump owns everything that happens and that republicans own trump. one, i want to ask you, how important is it that democrats make that connection as they walk into this new administration and is there really a world where democrats can sort of actually employ the obstructionist blueprint that mcconnell put out? >> look, mitch mcconnell has notoriously -- unsuccessful a minority leader as chuck schumer has ever been in the majority, he is very good at that. opposition politics are -- harry reid told me that,
